Hi guys,

Bit of a lurker here, don't post too often but always read.

Anywho, you guys always seem to give cracking advice re: motors, so here's my query for you.

I'm currently a home based worker but potentially going to have to start working out of the office a lot more frequently (new bosses :sigh:).

This will involve a daily 70 mile commute. My current vehicle is really not up to that and the petrol consumption is high.

I've got a budget of around 10k probably, and i'm thinking i'd like something practical, economic and comfortable but still something that can park in a work car park and not be laughed at! haha.

I'd also prefer a saloon size as we're inevitably going to be starting a family in the next few years.

I've looked at 4wds as we live in a very hilly area and the snow in the last few years has been crazy, but that immediately clashes with the economy of the vehicle so i've pretty much written that option off.

Thanks in advance!

R.I.P to Trevor Bolder bass player with David bowies spiders from mars who replaced John wetton In Uriah Heep and later also replaced John wetton again in Wishbone ash

A Statement From Uriah Heep

It is with great sadness that Uriah Heep announce the passing of our friend the amazing Trevor Bolder, who has passed away after his long fight with cancer. Trevor was an all time great, one of the outstanding musicians of his generation, and one of the finest and most influential bass players that Britain ever produced.

His long time membership of Uriah Heep brought the band’s music, and Trevor’s virtuosity and enthusiasm, to hundreds of thousands of fans across the world. He joined the band in 1976 and, barring one short break, was a fixture until his ill health forced him to take a step back early this year. Prior to joining Heep he was a founder and ever-present member of David Bowie’s legendary Spiders From Mars band, performing on all of their key albums and at countless shows. He also performed with Wishbone Ash, Cybernauts and The Rats.

Mick Box said, "Trevor was a ‘World Class’ bass player, singer & songwriter, and more importantly a World Class friend. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and rock fans all over the world. We are all numb to the core".

I parked in the designated car park, a car garage was fixing a customers car fairly close to mine, customers car goes on fire, my car ends up a mess

Car has been written off, we are getting paid £6500 for the car and get to keep it, so we have sold it to a salvage company for £1800, so in a way i am smiling, that is more than the car is worth :D

Right, have just moved house, which has completely wiped my bank account for the next month, and the nice virgin man has just left having set up my internet in my new place. My main pc (in sig) hasn't got a wireless adaptor, and has been shunted upstairs into my batcave with my guitars and amps to keep the house tidy).

Now Ive got an asus RT-56U router as well as the virgin superhub, and was using it at the last place to give my partner a proper wireless network, not one that kept cutting out when the room doors shut, and also to use as an ftp server etc.

Is it possible to connect the rt-56u wirelessly to the virgin hub and then run an Ethernet cable to my desktop to get internet providings, or am I going to have to buy a wireless adaptor and therefore wait to get back to ridding the world of zombies with my trusty axe?

have had a fiddle and so far have set an access point, but it needs a wired connection for internet and just provided more wireless coverage than before

I'm aware that these threads pop up now and then for different companies, and that on the whole Antec have a fantastic reputation for customer service here already, indeed they've helped me with spare parts and extras many times before.

That said I think it's always good to give a company credit where credits due and it helps forum members to make informed decisions about purchases.

Those of you that haven't witnessed the fate of my poor P280, see it here: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=259888

Took a shot in the dark and contacted Antec:

Quote:

 Dear Sir or Madam,

I'm the happy owner of a Antec p280 chassis, unfortunately it had a recent run-in with a haphazard courier and is now a little worse for wear! I very much doubt there's any kind of repair that can fix the issue, but I thought I would contact your support services on the off chance that something could actually be done. Please see the below pictures to inspect the damage for yourselves....(snip)

Within an hour I received the following:

Quote:

 Dear Sir,

I hope you are alright and didn't sustain the same damage as your enclosure!

I have to bring further bad news to you. Only the side panels and the front bezel and door can be replaced. These are usually the items which will be damaged by customers. Looking to your pictures, the frame itself has been damaged in such a way that it can not be mended.

From time to time we get enclosures back which has been damaged during transportation. (not every fork truck driver has a driving license!)

We do however have a frame with top panel which we can send to you but for the calculation of the sending fee we need to have the following information....(snip)

Quick, witty, and helpful! We'll see what comes of it, but that alone is worth a big thumbs-up for Antec! By the way the case is not under any kind of warranty, I don't even have an invoice or receipt, most companies would tell me where to get off!

I turned on the TV tonight and it stated it was in 1900*1080i not P. Now is this normal?. Is there anyway to change it to P or is it that the Virgin box is sending it a 1080i signal?. I'm not to hot on this topic as you can see lol. I have used the Samsung TVs E-manual and nowhere in the settings does it allow you to change the resolutions. I'm guessing it is the Virgin box?. Does that mean the HD channels are in 1080i and cant be in P? to.

If someone can clear this all up that would be great :).
