Hi mate, Sorry to be a pooper, but your SMP client looks like it's going to miss the deadline - I'm not sure if you get no points or reduced points for not hitting the deadlines? Anybody else advise? Craig...
Yep I think your right IwantAbetterPC I would suggest the normal client if its not getting them done on time
Votick - were you using Notfred/VMWare or Windows SMP client? If Notfred, then it appears to have the same "preferred" and "final" deadline times (which seems harsh!). Windows SMP clients usually have an extra day until the "final" deadlines - see my webpage for examples of two Windows SMP clients - maybe this would get you in before the deadline and so you'll still get points. From what I can gather on the forums, if you miss the preferred, but beat the final, you get points. If you miss both, you get zip. Craig...
Just noticed that mine will come in at about the same time as the CPChimps are due to finish - Saspro - if I change the config now to set the username back to IwantAbetterPC, will these WUs go to the Chimps or not? I don't want to start two new SMP WUs on 24th for the Chimps if I don't need to - sliding down the ranking table! I'll leave the two GPUs chimping until Wednesday night (unless we finish earlier!)
If you change username part way through a WU it doesn't change until you start a new one. You should be fine.
hmm yeah its tought keeping up think i mite switch back to the normal client. Was good to test it out though and learn a bit more
Correct - when the preferred deadline passes, that work unit is flagged up to be allocated to another machine. If you finish after the preferred deadline but before the final deadline, you still get the points, but the work will be duplicated. The Pande group request that if you are experimenting with SMP, you should monitor your speeds, and go back to classic clients if you frequently miss deadlines. Duplicated work is considered wasteful, rather than useful. I have 'old' AMD Athlon X2 CPUs which miss most deadlines running Windows SMP, even when running 24 hours a day. So I run two instances of the normal client, which mostly finish within a few days. It all helps.
Basically it's the same as setting up two GPU clients. You'll need two folders in 'Application Data' (Windows XP) and appropriate short cuts. Do you need more detailed instructions? I can email you copies of the files and shortcuts that I use if it would help - PM me.
I think I have done it. I downloaded the CPU Console Client. Dropped one in each CPU folder. Made a shortcut to desktop with the -local flag attached. Set up each CPU. Downloaded Prifinitty. Set CPU1 to Core 0 & the folding core. Set CPU2 to Core 1 & the folding core. Will Prifinitty remember which core to put what program on?
hmm seems ok now found out a f@h service was running so killed that. One stat viewer says its "hung" but as soon as it went up to 4% its back online again. Could just be it's slow 700+ pointer as well
768 pointers aren't nearly as bad as the 611 ones. Really though, it's all about getting the work done
