Hello everyone! I have built two intel Core i7 PC for my dad and myself already and I posted it here a while ago, but now it is time for my brother's PC to enter the spotlight. I need to upgrade him for school. Now seemed like a good time to do it. The specs: CPU: intel Core i7 930 D0 (stock, 2.8GHz) Motherboard: ASUS P6X58D-E RAM: Muskin Blackline DDR3 1600Mz 6GB (3x2GB) CL7 Video Cards: EVGA GTX 460 768MB SC Power Supply: Antec TP-750 CPU Cooler: (Stock) His case is an Antec 300 so there is no need for a new case, but as the motherboard doesn't have any IDE, I needed to buy him a SATA DVD drive. I also threw in a 1TB hard drive to go with the 500GB he has now. Related Forums: My PC My Dad's PC
@GoodBytes^ Each i7 PC has been built with the best parts at diferent price points and points in time thus they are all different from each other. Here are the first pictures of the new PC. All the new parts together. The shiny ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard. Now with the Core i7 930 Added the stock cooler. The Mushkin 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM. The Antec 300 case with the older 500GB hard drive, the only reusable parts. Now the board is in its new home. The Antec 750W power supply and EVGA GTX 460 video card are added. Now the other drives are added and all the power conections are made.
Small question to any one that looks here, the Mushkin Ram I got says CL7 (7-9-7-24) on it but the PC has it running at CL9 (9-9-9-24) so do I just need to change the two 9 timings to the 7 ones that are writen on the cards to fix this?
X58 motherboards (also P55 if I am not mistaken) doesn't auto-detect the RAM configuration. It sets it to a default lowest speed at 9-9-9-24 timings. You need to overclock the RAM to the correct specification from the manufacture. See the RAM and Motherboard manufacture for help in doing this correctly. Some RAM won't allow you to reach the specs based on the motherboard one can have (but I think you should be fine, because we use computer enthusiasts motherboards/overclocker). For select Gigabyte motherboard, you just load Profile1 in the BIOS, and the motherboard will auto-detect and configure the RAM correctly for you.
Here are some more pictures of the new PC with Windows 7. The front. The side, it really needs a window. His two 19" LG monitors. The whole desk with everything.
