None if you plan on overclocking it, a lot of 2700ks I have seen don't overclock as well, as if there is more issues with the wafers they are made from. If you are doing no overclock, then the 2700k would be slightly faster as it has a 100Mhz bump. But you would have to be daft to not OC it when folding, the 2600k folds damn well with a good overclock.
Depends, do you already have a 2600K? if not then I'd go with a 2700K, I've seen plenty that are very close together in terms of price.
at the moment im running a i3 2100.....so will be as high as I can go on my motherboard scan has the 2600k for £260 an ovrclockers have the 2700k for £230 or do I go for a 2500k from ebay for about £120 im running windows 8 8gb mem
id have a look on the marketplace here for a 3770k they have beeing going for around £190. There are some 3570ks on here around £110-120 mark but the HT on the i7s are better for folding.
but I think those cpu wont run on my mother board unless I do a bios flash.....an not sure on doing that
Flashing the bios is very easy, what board are you on? And I would recommend just buying used off the marketplace, will save you a fortune. Have bought and sold many CPUs on here myself.
well ive used msi live update an I think ive put the bios to the latest version...is there anywy off checking? if I ordered a i7 3770k id wanna be sure it will run first time on my board
Running cpu-z will tell you what bios you are on.... will also appear on the post screen i believe sent from me phone
Going by the MSI website the CPU compatability for ivy bridge you need rev 1.3 bios: http://uk.msi.com/product/mb/H77MA-G43.html#/?div=CPUSupport http://uk.msi.com/product/mb/H77MA-G43.html#/?div=BIOS So if you are running v1.3 or higher then you should be fine.
thanks guys I got a 2600 in the end but I cant overclock with my board so im on the lookout for a new board now
Don't worry about spending too much cash, any P67 or Z68 or Ivy bridge equivalent will do the job fine. My cheapy Asrock Pro3 board will hold my 2600k at 4.8Ghz stable.
Future upgrades possibly. But honestly, don't go crazy. Almost any board that supports overclocking will hold a decent enough speed for a folding rig.
