Just noticed something... On C: WinDirStat shows used space as 21GB but windows reports 43GB being used... I've disabled hibernate using powercfg -h off. I have no system restore set, and that is disabled. Where's the extra 22GB??
Windirstat is misreporting by the looks of it. Says you have 0mb of "user" files & settings. Which even on a fresh install should be something.
No that's right. Users is 1.7GB and documents and settings is not located on C: in my system. Thanks for the link faugusztin. I'll check through that later. Still installing stuff. Yes it's a new install.
sounds like a permission issue where windirstat doesn't have permission in its run context to see or access all files & Directorys. /ninja'd Corky, but his gives more detail
Just some random stuff that springs to mind, AFAIK WinDirStat wont be including the pagefile.sys in its size calculations, or any files in the "System Volume Information" folder, you could grant access to it just to see if there is anything hidden in it. Also when you disabled hibernate, did it remove the hiberfil.sys I guess chkdsk reports there's no problems. Other than that it could be something to do with permissions as WinDirStat won't list files it doesn't have access to, like Volume Shadow Copy, System Restore, System Protection. I guess you run WinDirStat as admin.
Does similar here. I believe it is due to the way Windows reports junctions as it can't tell the difference between a junction and an actual file. That makes the used space reported to be much higher than it really is.
