MSI Z170M Mortar Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
    Intel Core i5-6600K
    Corsair DDR4 2800MHz 16GB

    How does the above rate?
I appreciate I could probably get cheaper RAM but I do like my bling. It looks like my budget will need to be around £500 and I am not sure I could go X99 even though it has been pointed out here that that chipset would probably be better. It will mainly be a gaming machine and I still have to decide on a case as I have had enough of the Parvum.

You probably won't notice any difference in your gaming at all if that's all your upgrading.
2500k still isn't a bottleneck as far as I've read on the subject.

Better off saving your money and getting another 8 gig's of DDR3, and/or getting another 980.

That RAM price can't be right, surely? £163 for 16GB of DDR4 seems bonkers given you could get slightly less blinging DDR4 for just over half that price.

As Thom says, you'll probably not see a massive boost to upgrading from your 2500K to Skylake, but it's your money to spend at the end of the day :)

Not necessarily looking for a massive boost with this new build but I have had the 2500K for a while and the mobo is showing it's age. It needs a restart before it will connect to the interwebnet. No idea why this is as all drivers are and have been installed after every Windows reinstall.
And as I said I do like my bling hence the rather pricey RAM.

Well, as I say it's your cash, so buy whatever you like! In any event, I'd go for a 2x8GB kit rather than a 4x4GB purely to give some future upgrade headroom. Skylake's happy with dual-channel so there's no need to go quad.

I'm running the 6700k on a Mortar Z170 and seems ok apart from the loss of Ethernet for 3 days for no apparent reason.
Have had it o/c to 4.4 with no increase in temps- around the 35 deg mark on my watercooled loop along with a GTX980 as well at stock

Yeah, that's quite a nice saving there! Money to go towards a new case? Any thoughts as to what you might want?

Windowed, no point in having bling if I cannot see it and certainly not black.

    I am currently looking at:

Though not sure of the last two. Still looking for others.

I've got my eye on the Styx (probably in blue) - it's gorgeous. I'd really like a Metis but it's just too limited in terms of the size of GPU it can accomodate.

Avoid the Pandora. They're really poorly made. I like the Raijintek though. Very sleek.

Thanks. I doubt whether I would have decided on it as I prefer a more cubed shape.

Just FYI, the Styx is on offer at Overclockers just now for £50 (normally £65).

There was a guy on here who bought one and thought it was actually broken. So he ordered another one and it was just as bad.

I know from experience that Bitfenix's cases are very hit and miss. Whilst the colossus I had was fine, if a little plastic-y the Survivors were both awful. Very thin inner chassis that usually arrived warped so nothing lined up or fitted properly.
