Apart of Asroock, I only noticed that Gigabyte puts PCI express on their s1151 ITX mobos. Now, Can I use PCI Express port as 2 separate SATA3 ports? So if this Gigabyte Z170N Gaming 5 mobo has 2 PCI express ports and 2x SATA ports, does it mean I could actually use 6 SATA ports?
The two SATA ports in the SATA Express port will working fine normally. From the listing - "2 x SATA Express (Compatible with 2x SATA 6.0 Gbps)"
Yeah, so do they mean 2x SATA express will work as 2x SATA 6.0? Or, should that say - 2x SATA Express will work as 4xSATA 6.0?
Each SATA express should work as 2 normal SATA ports, so 4 total. EDIT: 6 total on the board, that is.
as meandmymouth said, you'll have 6 usable SATA III ports, plus the m2 slot on the underside of the board...
Cool, I was looking for a mitx mobo with more than 4 sata. I wonder why they put that pci express sata when its a dead end anyway...
Yep. At least it gives us 2 extra sata. Itx format is fine with 4 sata sockets but sometimes its good to have small mobo in data center pc.
Agree, I have both H77 and H81 ITX with 6 SATA at home H81 is in my NAS with all used (and a waayyyyyy overpowered 4790 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
