So JRM admits he got it wrong about there being delays at Dover.

However he insists it's the French's fault as they won't allow the Brits to freely move.

I seem to recall the UK voted to end the free movement of people.

JRM is either stupid, a compulsive liar or both.

I don't think he's stupid at all, very few of them really are, they're just prepared to sacrifice everyone and anything to advance their own interests (financial or political)

And replace them with the next bunch of like-minded opportunists...

Career politicians are all the same deep down. Sure, some of them lean more right or more left, but greedy bastards without a conscience they all are.

That's rather like saying "no point voting because the government wins every time."

The only way you can hope for any kind of change, is to use your vote! I'm sure it's the same in Germany.

Less bad, is better than even worse and, that is what the Tories will become unless they are voted out.

I agree that voting is not a right but a privilege.

I do feel very strongly at the same time, though, that there is no actually appreciable change to expect with any of the "acceptable" parties. To get real change (for the worse, mind!) you have to vote hard right or hard left. But nobody intelligent wants that. So, voting is something every one has to do to prevent "even worse" from happening. Isn't it lovely how good our outlook is? ;)

Now, changing the way democracy works at the most basic level, i.e. no career politicians, shorter terms for governments, actual responsibility for not doing what you promised during your campaign, no "country lists [Landeslisten]" (not sure that exists in the UK, but in Germany we have this concept of ranked lists within a party that decide which politician gets voted into parliament based on the percentage their party wins in the GE, in addition to voting in regions/cities/towns from which direct candidates move into parliament [Direktmandate].... basically a "suck up to me because I'm at the top, and you'll rise in rank on the list, maximising your chance to get to Berlin, mate" system, keeping the powerful in power within the parties), ... THAT would bring change. But which politician in their right mind would vote for that and give up 11k per month after tax + 220 per day for food + a car + a driver + the chance to also sit on the boards of as many companies as you can convince to bribe you? Call me cynical (you may be correct, you know?) but I don't see that happening.

I know this is the commonly-held view, but they're really not all the same.

I'm not saying Labour/Libs were perfect last time (far from it in fact), but they're really nowhere near as bad as the Tories have been/are in any metric:

I'm still trying to work out how David Davis thinks the only problems with Brexit are because it's a 'remainers brexit'.

Then again the word 'oxymoron' does contain the word 'moron' so I guess it shouldn't be a surprise.

On a tangent, queuing to get your passport stamped just feels all levels of wrong. I hate how stupid this country is, oh hang on, does that mean I have to go to one of the Sunak reeducation centres now?

Indeed. Brexit is a purist ideology; it cannot fail, it can only be failed. So it will never have been done 'right' enough, its champions will never have tried hard enough, the people will never have believed hard enough. The Dolchstoßlegende lives on.

Almost like there was some kind of virus going around in recent times that actually had a tangible impact on the NHS because there wasn't exactly much spare capacity built in... So not exactly surprising that the NHS isn't swimming in spare cash even with a bit of extra funding.

Oh I see where I went wrong, I attempted to use some flavour of logic.

This could have easily gone in the "who will you vote for" thread, but:

I don't agree with what I'm interpreting as undertones of xenophobia, though I can't deny it'll be effective against the target audience... but there's absolutely nothing factually wrong in there.
