Hi my friend has a substantial dvd collection and wants to be able to watch them on his samsung galaxy 10.1 tablet. He would like to know a good program to use to be able to convert it to a readable format that can be used on the tablet. I know of convertDVDtoX but its paid-for software. Are there any free ones?

    Cheers.

I use AnyDVD HD to grant access to the disc, and Handbrake to encode on a weekly basis without issue, you know in case Lovefilm need a backup... :)

It actually started out shifting the 600 DVD's and Blu-ray's to my server so I could use XBMC around the house, then to curb the expense of buying films for our library I joined Lovefilm.

The only disc's I will buy now are quality films and Awesome TV shows in complete box set style, i.e when Game of Thrones is complete and over I shall track down the complete collectors edition set that will be released (hope so).

I use handbrake or Freemake. Both very good. But I think Freemake is easier to use if you've not used these before.

The website for Freemake just looks as if it'll install more junk than a PC world special

When loading, just decline loading other software. Easy.

Better to try it before you criticise and put others off.

I'm just a strong believer that if it's "free" it should be open-source so you could at least see what's going on in there.

It's probably fine, but lot's of "free" to download applications that are close source tend to be a little rogue.

I use DVD Decrypter to override the copy protection on DVDs and then use Handbrake to trancode them.
