depends on. if you just want some wery simple as turning off an on something, then yes... but if you want some multichanel stuff it gets pretty much more complicated. what are you going to us it for? if you are going to controll software winlirc and a simple reciever (and an old remote or one of those multiremotes)

what's an IR receiver? i would research it but my internet is messed up and I can't get on msn when I really need to.
why not just buy an ati multimedia remote and set you pc to boot when input from usb device is recived.

anyone got a circuit design for my project? Might want to look at this: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=83706 The basic tranmitter/recever should be the same, just the way it interfaces with the computer will be different. You might want to use the serial port and write some software to interpret the data coming from it. _C

Depends on how many different things you want it to do. But you'll have to search and/or design it by yourself, for example using logic gates.
