    Hi people!

I'm looking to get a decent gaming graphics card to replace the (£11  ) Radeon 7000 in my main machine... Its specs will be: A64 3500+; 1GB PC3?00 ram; Asus A8V Deluxe mobo. I've got around £180-£200 to spend on this, as I assume it'll be the last AGP card I buy, so I want to to last a while. I won't be playing at higher res than 1280x1024. Am I right in thinking that an overclocked 6800GT like this is the best I can get for this money, or do ATi make something better? It looks like the X800XL is better value, but only available for PCIE, right? I'd like to overclock, but I don't want to do any softmods etc. to unlock pipes.

EDIT: I got the impression/guessed from Tom's that the 6800GT was best value when overclocked to 400/1100 or around that. A couple of reviews quoted as high as 417MHz core, but I'm not betting on it! :D

    Many thanks for any suggestions,

Have you bought the bits already? Since PCI-E bits arent really much more (some cases less)

I've already got the whole system running (for over a year), with athlon64 and the mobo, and 512Mb of cheap ram. I'm gonna upgrade to a gig of nicer stuff/buy 512Mb more cheap stuff in october.

What do you mean by Cheesecake?

Oh, right! I wasn't sure if he meant WTF, like some people write "teh" when they mean "the" or if he meant "for the <word for money beginning with w>" :hehe:
Thanks for clearing that up :)

    Any other opinions people?

    Thanks,

The 6800 GT is generally considered to be faster than the X800 Pro. There is X800 XL on AGP but it is slightly more expensive than the PCI-Express version, just to clear that myth up.

Oh, yeah, it's even in the tom's charts I linked to :duh: :)! So would this agp versionbe faster than the 6800GT? The GT seems to just beat it in all their tests save HL2, at default clocks, so with OC, it should be way ahead, right?

    Looks like the 6800GT then,

thanks for the help everybody! :thumb:

Good choice. I've heard that nVidia has better 64 bit drivers than ATi. I do have to comment that installing the nVidia drivers on my new PC went by very smooth.
BTW, do download and install the 64 bit drivers for better performance.

OK, I was just about to buy when I saw this: does anyone know what makes it so cheap? It has the correct clocks for an X800XT PE -- does it use crappy memory or something?
EDIT: I mean the ASUS AX800XT/TVD/256MB
    Thanks,

that asus x800xtpe is a cracking card for the amount of cash you pay. a bit faster than the 6800gt too.
