Good evening I have a laptop but it`s hdd is wrecked and I need help from proffesional guys to connect a standard HDD to my laptop I need the laptop IDE diagram to connect the cable that I have made it it`s astandard pc to laptop IDE converter but I need the laptop IDE diagram to complete the other side of the cable
Laptop drive IDE interface is the same as desktop IDE drive, except there are 4 extra pins for power. The first two are +5v, the second two are GND. Detailed pinout on this site. Just remember that it goes up to down, right to left, and pin 1 is on the top right corner if you're looking at the HD pins.
Sorry but it cant be done a standard pc hard drive needs a 12V and 5V while a laptop only provides a 5V rail. you can get adapers for laptop hard drives to go in pcs like this But if you were to get a GOOD 12v rail going then it might work but your better off buying a new laptop hd -Frank
Exactly. I don't know what the rest of you are dribbling about - just get one of these: standard repair equipment tbh.
what are you on about?? either buy adapter of ebay /\ or maplins as other people have suggested it and if you dont wanna waste money got a bit of soldering skillz and old laptop and some old ide cables you can make your own! i think that was the question
methinks he wanted to go the other way, he said the notebook's HD is dead, and he wants to use a standard 3.5 HD on the notebook. If you could get a hold of some gender changers, or make one if you have the parts around, you could theoretically use one of the adaptors to put a notebook drive in a desktop, just watch for the pinout. As for power, I personally have a number of AT and small PSUs from external drive enclosures I use for stuff like this. As long as all the cables are connected, the HD is happy to power on before it starts getting commands from the IDE controller.
We actually read his post and know what hes looking for.... He wants to use a desktop harddrive on his laptop. Not the other way around.. Either this is the second post like this Ive seen or when I posted my reply a while ago it didnt actually post....hmmm What I think: Easier / possibly cheaper (may end up frying drive and/or laptop) to just buy new laptop harddrive which can be had for $60 on newegg...
why dont you just get an external hard drive case an bang a old hard drive in it hey-presto it may be bulky but it would prob work out cheaper than gettin a new lappie hd
