Ive got something awsome planned for this Some awsome etching is planned, and a 3d Metallica sign at the bottom. its gonna be MINTTTT

My aim is to take my dodgy looking case, turn it into something spectacular and make it run a bit cooler :)
BTW excuse quality of pictures.. was taken with my phone
Well as you can see my case isnt all that fantastic... but decent looking i guess :)

Ok this thing is going to need a face plate... so heres the faceplate from a Soprano case :) nice and shiny!
those edges are going to need to come off though... :miffed:

Ok... ive always had a fan controller but hated the fact that it was at the back... im going to have to do something a bout that...

    heres the fan controller
    [IMG]
Not the best in the world.. but hey. it got the job done.. but i did end up removing it...

I want this to be in t he front of my PC.. so a floppy drive bay would be sacrificed... but who uses a floppy these days?

    Oki dis mantled :dremel:

    [IMG][IMG]
Ok ive masked it up, measured it all up and drilled out some holes for its new home :) Dont ask what happened to the paint.. i musnt have cleaned it properly when i painted it :waah:

all that was left to put it back together ...
    :jawdrop: Mmmm pretty!!!

Oh boy im having fun :D:D

Ok just so you guys know where im going to mount that weird radiator like device...

Its going to be installed BETWEEN the fan and the heatsink (its going to be around 10mm thick) and well that will supply a really cold breeze to the CPU :)

My Case is obviously going to need a window... so well.. here is the side panel. Ill be drawing out a window shape soon. Im thinking of a plain design atm. maybe a design idea would be nice?

Ok ive just done some more work.

Ive run into a slight issue with the window mod...
My side panel has a sort of "handle-grip" thingy.. and when i put my masking tape as guides...
I dont know whether to try and cut it out... or cur around it and leave like a semi circle. ?? :duh:

On the plus side ive started to sand back my casing. I was about to undercoat them with some all metal primer but then i saw how pretty it looked!
    [IMG][IMG]

looks like brushed steel / aluminium.

My original plan was to paint everything black, but maybe a nice brushed aluminium theme wouldnt be too bad? id need to put some sort of clear over it though as it scratches VERY easily...

Ive pulled off the front of my pc to get some measurements. Im going to "TRY" and remake the front panel. Ill put a pic here soon.
    [IMG][IMG]

Im thinking of putting a perspex plate across the top and mounting fans in it.
Ill make a photoshop chop shot in a second and ill show you what i mean :)

ahh another Asus hammer legion member!! yeyeye!!!

btw this is my old kb + ms... my wireless batteries have gone KA-PUT... dead... lol so i gotta get new ones :)

the cooler is a bit confusing yes, but i assure you it will work, just finding a air compressor small enough will be a pain...

Ok well ive done ALOT of work since my last update.. but umm my phone is being a bit of a prick and i cant upload the images!! NOO!!!!

Btw ive changed my mind about the CPU cooler, im going with a Peltier module type design, the compressor would have been far too expensive to buy and not small enough for my needs :) but im not even sure about that anymore.. i might just make a air con for my pc instead of a direct CPU cooler

    UPDATE!

ok firstly i got my hands on some perspex!!! 4x sheets of the stuff :) (the size is what i wanted so dw :)
ive also gotten some "KICKER" etching for perspex (if you can make it out) :)

Now i had to cut out the first window, THE TOP

First i had to undo the pop rivets, and then i marked out the hole that i had to cut out :
    jig sawed away...
now a bit of filing :)
Now to cut out the side panel (stupid me forgot to show picture of marking...)

Now to cut the perspex :
    Side
    [IMG]
    Top
    [IMG]

Now to get to painting the chassis :)

    [IMG] [IMG]

a bit of undercoat : (its 2 differnet basecoats looks stupid lol hah i know...)
    Being painted :....

oh and this is my "TEMPORARY CASE" lol
    [IMG]

I like the paint, a bit mattish, and a bit glossy, a bit texture i REALLY like it :)
    parts layed out :

    Chassis back together

    UPDATE!!!

Ok well i want this to look as NEAT as possibal.. and the way the PSU is sitting is a major no no...
Now its sitting with the power cables AGAINST the back of the case, not out front like it is now, all i did was flip the PSU upside down :)

ALSO, my PSU rear fan stays off unless the PSU is really hot but i feel it getting hot and it still wont get turn on so all i did was join some wires...

What kind of mod would this be if there werent any injuries?
not major i just sliced my pruned up hands on the edge of the metal :S

Just a shot of where the 120mm fan will be sitting (not on this angle though)

i calledf it perspex cuz sum ppl would be like huh?

i didnt know you know lexan n stuff lol :p
i choose to buy this over the perspex as its stronger and less brittle

I done some work in year 11 with perspex and i kept cracking it :S:S
i know the quality isnt as good as perspex, but its only marginal

Ive left that space on the right hand side because i will be putting a design there and a fan in the bottom half :)

Lexan is the best, it can resist bigger temperatures, harder to brake and harder to sracth ;)

I prefer to work with Lexan polycarbonate
it's strong doesn't crack and is easy to work with
we used it in robotics this year and it's just rediculous

    thats why i chose it...
lol... i guess it was pretty stupid of me to undermine the modders in this community! lol

I from now on will call everything what it is and not dumb it down lol...

i called it perspex cuz more ppl are familiar with it i guess... oh well...

ill be screwing the LEXAN POLYCARBONATE into place probably today and make up the front panel :D

I'd love to see this finished, this seems like one of those minimalist mods that look really nice.

A tip for your next painting shot - do it on cardboard, whether flat or boxed. Why? Wet painty edges stick to plastic AND newspaper well, leaving pieces to rip off when you try to remove the damn painted parts
