Hi Guys, just thought i would show you what i picked up on ebay last week for a total of £12.50!!! 2 x GU256x64-350 VFD displays Check out the back Back1 Back2 Im gonna be connecting one to a pic and learnign to control it Plus i might hook the other to my comp!
Good score! Looks like it's got the power circuitry onboard, probably 5v ready. Did you get data sheets as well?
So it was YOU I had my eye on , what i presume was one of these , but someone got the auction ended early grrrrrrr , you lucky lucky @@@@ And you got 2 , hate you hate you hate you Hope you get them working mate
HA ha cheers yeah got him to put a buy it now on plus he said he had two!!!! Also yeah they take 5v already powered them up but only the horizontal (filament???) lines come on it draws about 1.3Amps!!! Have ordered the connectors of rapid so should get them this week then i can connect one to pc!
Thanks every one! looking forward to doing some of the things like coorz some of your diplays are magnificent!!! Will update when i have the cables made up EDIT: Coorz have you got the screen files for the displays on the linky you posted?
Hi guys, Ive made up the cables and the good news if THEY BOTH WORK!!!!!!!! (will get pics sorted out when i have something worth showing) However one of the screens has quite a 'nice' high pitched whine to it. Im not sure what it is (poss the high frequency voltage) but i was wondering if its a problem or if it can be fixed
The high pitched wine comes from the inductor of the SMPS power supply for the anode/grid voltage. No worry, it doesn't hurt the good working of the display. Locate the inductor on the component side on the PCB (near the +5VDC input) and apply some hot glue on the coils. With a little good luck the wine will stop. CD
I've got one with the same problem. But, if I leave it running for about 10 minutes or more, the high-pitch whine "seems" to go away. And for that price, you just can't beat it! Those should be compatible, pin/function whise, with the -372, -800, and -352 (I think). So, if you can get the datasheet for one of those, you should be good to go.
Hey guys just a quick post befor i head of to work Got the things running and here are some quick pics i knocked up in a min or so (will post some better ones later)
Good look with the hook up, if you can get some LEDs for your comp case then it'll match the VFd screens... and that would be sweet when the lights are off in the room... sweet
Could you please post the link of the ebay auction? I have searched in eBay, looking for all the completed listings of vfd, and could not find yours. Thanks and congratulations for your adquisition!
Hey, looking to get some more pics up soon and trying to get pic program working @ Vito heres the link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7620524487&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1
Thanks for the link. I wanted to find out why my searches did not success with this item. The reason is now quite clear: I have several searches for VFD, and the seller wrote "VF DISPLAY" in his auction (ITRON 256x64 DOT MATRIX VF DISPLAY).
