So this is my first modding project ever. I'm building a case of wood with good airflow and watercooling possibility (or atleast trying :D ). I'm 18 years old and live in Finland. Enough of me.. here are some pictures of my tools / parts and the work I've done so far.

Here's a pic of how I've combined the pieces (sorry for the crappy pic, I'll get better ones tomorrow)

And here's finally how it looks at the moment. I used screws because I don't have proper tools / skills :D But the screws shouldn't look too bad when I get more work done.

The project name came from my dad.. he said something like "I'm guessing this project will end up in the fireplace". In other words he didn't think I could pull it off.. what do you guys think ?

Screws can be covered with filler for wood and then sanded. so if you going to paint the case, they will be invisible.

i cant quite make out how you've made the joints in the wood...but, i'd reccomend you use mitre joints (45 degree cuts on either end, each slots into the other and you have a nice squre joint.) or better still, a comb joint. which if done properly can look quite good!

looks like a promising project. keep it up!

It could turn into a place for fire if you have some sort of fire inside it :D

hmm i remeber there was a mod where you get a fan, stick about 5 fflame shaped peices of cloth around the outer edge of the fan, and stick a orange LED so that i shines through the middle of the fan, so when you turn the fan on, the cloth dances like flames, if you combine that with frosted plexi you and add a dim backlight, you can actualy have it look like theres fire buring inside your case...

Yeah I agree with Korean, the fire effect would look great.

Those are very basic butt joints that have 2 screws in and will probably have been glued.

They will be MUCH stronger than a mitre joint, and a comb joint, by this is assume you mean a finger or maybe dovetail joint would be a seriously hard to achieve on that small section of timber.

It is the best way of joining those sections in these conditions, same as Ive done in my project. :)

considering there butt joints there very good, make sure you can't see the screw heads in the final mod though. countersink and fill them in with woodfiller or bondo when your done with the frame :)

I've got some wooden pieces that fit just in the holes and make the screws invisible :)

Urm, I don't think it's the 'strongest' or best way to join the sections of wood. Mortise & tenon would have proberly been the best way. However for his needs this is perfect, straightforward and perfectly strong enough.

Also a mitre and comb/dovetail joint would be stronger due to the fact that there's more wood in contact with each other.

You're right that a comb or a dovetail would be stronger but as I meantioned I don't have correct tools or a workshop where I could build such things.
