    Constructive post there

TVs and Monitors are very different things when it comes to specs.

Looks from this article like it's just HD-DVD output they're talking about and not games. Is this the case? If so it's not really *that* big a deal, and I seriously doubt Sony give two hoots to be honest.

    (edit)

Eurogame reckon it can upscale 720p games to 1080p. Well unless they have a decent upscaling algorithm then this isn't going to help your image quality one bit. Even if they do it'll not look as good as native 1080p output, and I don't see any native 1080p games on the 360 anytime soon.

That is true, How much will a dedicated HD-DVD player cost when they are more popular? So if this resoulution is only supported on the HD-DVD, then there is not really too much point in it.
If it is supported in games however, it will give the 360 a boost.

no, its games as well, in the future though. current games will jsut have to scale...

btw... did you purposefully choose a name that is not only a highly grotesque act of sticking your bits in someones mouth, but also being a tit on online multiplayer games?

Erm... yeah. It seemed like a good idea for an online handle at the time (a few years ago) and it's kind of stuck.

Don't get the online multiplayer reference though

Anyone know if the upscaling is being processed to increase image quality or just scaled?

It's nice to see that the 360 could do 1080p all along and MS have purposely waiting until the PS3 release to launch the update. Thanks for that.

The xbox 360's component out only allows up to 1080i. The vga conection should allow 1080p, but I believe 1080p will be only for the external HD-DVD add on and its HDMI output.

it will be for games. as well
dvd's will be upscaled over both vga and componet. 1080p
    hd-dvd will be 1080p
all games at 720p will be upscaled like it does for regular xbox games
devs can make games 1080p natively if they want.
ms will not be making any 1080p games as they suport 720p as a good medium. Ms stated they doubted many devs would make games in 1080p but now they have the ability 2.

we can let ms explain it

Kim was clear that the console could support true 1080p out.

"If it is running at 720p we will up-res it to 1080p, if it it's already 1080p then we can display it in 1080p," he said. " This is a great example of our console's ability and the great advantage of being a software company."

The AACS currently forbids 1080p movie content over component, as far as I know.

Not to mention that very few televisions accept a 1080p signal over component anyway (far fewer than are 1080p in the first place).

At the moment not sure what the fuss is for- its only the uber rich that can afford the 1080 line teles at present. All go for about £3k minimum if I'm not mistaken.

Isn't there a PC monitor that does 1920x1080? If it has an HDMI port then you're sorted.

Bah, all these standards just confuse me...
*remembers the good old days of RF cables and switch boxes*

imo, it's still way too early to even think about buying into the HD revolution - I won't be spending my money for a good 5 or 6 years. Hell, I imagine the PS3/x360 will be old hat by the time I get myself a HD TV.

1900x1200? 1650x1050 is close on a wide screen TFT.

yep, 24inch monitors support 1920x1200 so you'll be fine

BenQ's brand new 24inch monitor sports a HDCP enabled HDMI and DVI port. and anyway you can easily get a HDMI to DVI converter

it is the act of killing someone and then placing yourself over their corpse's head and repeatedly hitting the crouch key.

    Hi,

Yes, I do have a "native 1080p display," a Dell 24" TFT. However, I won't ever be displaying 1080p HD on it digitally, because Sony or Panasonic want to sell me a new TV... I'm sorry, I mean, the MPAA feel an urgent need to protect their intellectual property by supporting HDMI.

ETA on the HDMI to DVI descramblers?

Yes, I know this isn't much to do with the 360, but it's irritating to be barred from using the display I own to its fullest potential by this HDMI drivel.

    Phil
