I can post the original MJPG .avi from my camera when I get home, if you still need it.

Its alright, am at home now :p

But is the rate of the LEDs going to change with the amount of activity? I.e. with the frequency of pin 39?

Yes, it does go faster depending on the amount of activity. what you saw in the video is the "maximum" rate which is controlled by a switch on the backside of the PCB. Press and hold it to toggle speed up/down and then just tap it to make it go faster or slower.

The whole thing works on a principle of "minimum on" time. the LED pattern will be turned on if the controller detects activity, but will not be turned back off if the next activity-sample does not detect activity. It stays on for a minum amount of a time (a 16-bit number that's tied to the 16-bit onboard counter.). In essence, if there's not enough activity to keep it going constantly (time between actives > minimum on time) then you'll see the led go out, then the next one come the next time the controller sees activity.

Pin 39 is not used - the controller is universal. Feed it a current-limited 5V input into the optoisolator, and it does it's thing. Dutch is using SATA drives so I'm banging together a piece of software that watches the windows performance counters and the manipulates the RTS/DTR lines ona serial port to mimic the kind of signal you'd normally see coming out of an HDD activity line on your mobo or PATA pin 39.

And yes, darnit, I still work on goliath sometimes.

^^^ Starbuck, I lost ya right after, "yes, it does go"... :D

    Rattlecan Paint Test...

You might remember there were some "extra" pieces of sheetmetal made up, just in case something got screwed up... well, these are spare halves for the PSU pod... I'm playing with ideas for the color(s)...

    Etching primer...

    HOK white base coat...

    HOK Snowhite pearl...

    HOK Tangelo pearl...

This one was done by taping out the graphics... gotta smooth those curves better...

This one is simpler to tape out, but I pinstriped it with OneShot purple, using a 00 Mack brush... my stripin' skeels just ain't what they need to be, but I'm likin' these colors...

Our son likes the first one, wife likes the second, I wanna do something in between... :hip:

That orange looks killer. I agree that Something inbetween would definately look good, t hat purple pinstripe really adds something extra to it that you don't see everyday.

i have to say the orange looks great, but what about other colours? a mod this large is obviously driven mostly by personal preference... have you thought about any other colours dutchcedar? :D

Bingo... I think we've got it!!!

This will make the bezels Tangelo pearl and much of the pods bodies pearl white... use your imagination... there would end up being sixteen of these scallops altogether... :worried:

Taped off with the edges fogged with pearl magenta...

Sprayed over with Tangelo and dusted again over the top with magenta at the edges again...

    Quick shot of clear...

Keep in mind, I'm just experimentin'... only spent about an hour on this, so yeah, there's a flaw or two... :hip:
