I'm visiting in summer (next year), I will be buying a SLR and lens, lots of it there is pirate but some shops sell legitmate products. Canon Lens for example have an international warrenty so that makes them a pretty good buy.

You guys realise that the camera shops on main streets with the neon lights and stuff normally overprice stuff obviously to tourists in particular, probably sticking to the big department stores would be better..

Yeah, they realised and caught on the fact that people know it's cheap so...they just raised prices to earn more.

There are less and less fake games aswell now at least in accessible areas since the customs really cracked down. It was really funny though no joke okay, one shop gets shut down, in the same week the same shop will open again and get closed down and it was just a circle that repeated itself..

Sounds like what we do with the tourists and opals. In the city there's a lot of Opal shops, selling really low quality stuff at ridiculous prices. The locals know that for a good opal - you go straight to the source.

As far as shopping goes, I don't think you can go past Thailand. It was incredible!! When I went I got some beautiful jewellery for a fraction of what I'd pay here. My father when he went got 2 tailor made suits, plus shirts and ties to match - for $500AUD. Mind you, that was back in '92.
