    This is a great idea and it looks like it came out really nice.

    Ive found all the bits to do this mod (small rumble motor, Microsoft laser mouse 6000, solder, wires etc) but when i tried to do it it just killed the left mouse click.

    I then took the wires off and it worked again (I think i grounded the button). So what i was wondering is how did you do the mod? And where abouts did you connect the wires from the motor onto the mouse?

    A detailed photo or a small diagram would be a real help.

    Thanks alot.

    Baby got back!

    That was a fun little project, even though your color choice is somewhat funky :hehe:

    We need more of these kind of projects here on bit-tech.

    Looking forward what you come up with next.

    Well, I had that paint red Krylon Fusion lying around, so I figured I would make use of it. Also, it now matches my painted gaming keyboard I did a few months ago;

    [IMG]

    Well, after I tested the motor to make sure it worked at 5v and also didn't draw more than around 400mA (the mouse uses 50mA and the port can only supply 500) and found it to be drawing 120mA @ 5v.

    The wires are connected like this:

    5v+ ---> + Motor - --> button ----> 5v-

    [IMG]
    ^ Check that you have it connected to the 5v+ and 5v- lines (may not be red and black)

    I think the motor is important to getting this to work, my friend tried to do the same thing, and ended up ruining three mice in the process. It is important to check that the motor will run properly on 5v and also take a look at the bottom of the mouse as it typically says the power requirements on the sticker.

    Hope that helped.

    Cool!

    It would have been much, much easier if mine had fit into its casing, but then it would have been indistinguishable from any other ordinary mouse, so I'm glad I needed to mod the shell to make it all fit. Can't wait to see the pics.

    Hi Matt,
    Don't forget to put a protection diode across the motor to protect the circuit from reverse voltage from the motor.

    Hi, sorry I didn't respond to this earlier. I checked that out and the amount of reverse voltage is very minute, the motor doesn't spin nearly fast enough for it to generate a substantial amount of electricity that could damage anything, and the way it is set up no sensitive chips are in the way, so its safe. Definitely a good idea if it were a larger motor that was spinning faster though, thanks for the tip.

    OT: Hmm this will be my first post after many years only visiting and reading.

    T: If i see correctly, on that picture u are connecting motor betveen +5V and -5V.
    But i can tell that is not 5V, it is 10V.
    It will be "120mA @ 5v" between +5V and 0V, or -5V and 0V (reverse). (0V=GND=ground)

    BTW: I like yours tumor mouse, but isnt it uncomfortable after some hours playing games?

    First off, Welcome.

    Second, this was a long time ago and I'm sure now that USB has no -5V line, so I am just running the motor off 5V. I'm not sure how I got confused while writing that last post.

    The mouse isn't very uncomfortable, but I haven't used it for extended periods in a long time. I use my nice G5 for that. The off switch is good too so I can just turn off the rumble if it starts to make my hand go numb after 5 hours.
