Looking forward to what I am sure will be another GREAT project. Best of luck.. Having done the "two projects at once-thing" I know it can be very time intensive, but with that said "twice the fun"..

    Bottom plate - Part 1...

Hey all, I bet you know what time it is :hehe:

Firstly, thank you all for your comments and overall interest towards this project, it really helps me to carry out this modding endeavour and keep me focused.

Since this is the first official update for Phantom Black, I thought that I'd shed some light on the main themes which can be seen throughout the whole project.

Colouring is one thing I think you already have guessed, black is back.

For lighting I couldn't think more suitable way to go than white leds.

Also there's going to be loads of clear and smoked acrylic pieces along the way, but let's kick this thing into high gear and start the update.

First step was to cut numerous pieces of acrylic with this...

Since it was below 0 degrees in the damn garage I didn't stop to take any pictures of the acrylic pieces, they'll reveal themselves as we go along.

This was the biggest piece and also the "main attraction" of the case. Let's take a closer look...

It has rounded edges except in the back. This was my first chance to do something with my router.

After that I played with my router a bit more and made some channels to the acrylic.

This was possible since the acrylic is 10mm thick and for the holes, I think you know what goes in them :hehe:

You got it right, holes are for leds and the main goal is to get them to sit flush against the bottom of the case.

Also here are the case feet that attach to the acrylic with M4 bolts...

    ...like that.

Turn it over and here's how it looks from the other side.

The holes in the acrylic align with the holes in the case (holes for the case feet) and since the acrylic is 10mm thick, it's possible to attach the acrylic to the case with the same holes. Let's keep things neat people :D

Here's the clearance that the case feet give (it's even when put on a hard surface, my couch gives in a bit since the acrylic is quite heavy).

Also got the bottom of the case painted, let's see that up close as well...

It's not perfect, but surely good enough for the bottom of the case :hehe:

That's it for now, but since there's quite a bit more to show you, I'll probably have an update ready if not tonight, then tomorrow. See you soon...

Black with white leds, that will surely be nice.
Will that orange cable be used? A white cable would look better I think.
And nice job with that acrylic :thumb:

    Thanks guys.

    @Bluefan

No, the orange cable is for Orange Monster, it was just handy to show the reflections, nothing else.

I'll be back later, stay tuned...

    Bottom plate - Part 2...

    Here we go again...

Like chase, I couldn't wait to see the damn thing lit either :hehe:

What do we do then, we make it work!

Before we start our update, I'd just like to remind you that the bottom plate is far from being done.

So if you see jagged edges for example, don't mind that, it's a work in process and I just wanted to see if it'll work in the end so let's see what we got.

After a few hours of soldering the leds are sitting in their places nicely. The wires are attached with hot glue, I know, I know, not the most ingenious way to attach wires, but it's easy, cheap and easy to remove if necessary and again, it's good enough of a solution for the bottom.

Here's the bottom plate installed to the case. The wires come through a 20mm hole I drilled to the bottom of the case.

    Here it is from below.

One of the mounting screws, as you can remember, the bottom plate uses same M4 threaded holes for attaching to the case and also attaching the case feet to it.

For just to see the general picture, I installed the front face to the case temporarily.

Here's how the bottom plate works with the front face.

And there you can see the gap between the case and the bottom plate and also the spacers which I made from 3mm acrylic.

Next we'll see how this thing looks when lit...

It looks quite good even when it's not dark, let's turn off the mofo lights shall we :hehe:

    Lookin' good :thumb:

    From higher angle and finally...

...a shot with longer exposure which shows the lighting pretty much how it is, but a bit dimmer though especially the plate.

I think that's it for tonight, tell me what you like, don't be shy, all input is appreciated.
