I know this isn't a book, and won't contain any help but have you tried Google code search?
Might be useful in finding lots of ways to do one thing etc.

You can get ones from WHSmiths. I have C++ In easy steps. Its quite a good book. Not to steep.

C++ Primer Plus is a pretty good book for beginners. It's a 1000+ pages, but it covers a lot of material.

I couldn't recommend Stroustrup more! Its a great intro to C++ and still covers complex issues too.
