Is there any good way to resize the active NTFS partition running XP pro? I'd like to save room for a second partition from which to run Linux on my laptop without having to reload windows.

    Thanks

If you don't mind paying a bit of money or doing something less then legal then Partition Magic works pretty well for me.

I'd prefer to keep it legal and free if thats an option.

Have you had personal success with these? I've tried one before and it hung while finishing the partition and destroyed my data accessibility.

Yeah... I normally recommend Partition Logic to anybody looking for free partitioning software as well.
But Cute Partition Manager is also free ;)

The good way is to backup all important data first and make sure you have all the discs needed for a re-install, just in case. I always change partition sizes from a CD boot, doing it from within Win is a bit like sawing off the branch you're sitting on. It's a slow process, don't start if thunderstorms are forecast.
