Working on the ends now, and into the interior of the landing bay. I am attempting to continue
the ribs around the edge of the opening and down the inner panel, as seen here in this reference pic.

I start by cutting the triangular panels to shape and gluing them in.

Then I can perform additional gratuitous styrene stick heat manipulation.

Since I need to perform the same manipulation on a number of unsuspecting styrene sticks,
I decided to make a quick jig. I traced the first stick's profile onto a piece of wood.

    Routed it out,
    [IMG]

    Checked for fit,
    [IMG]

Then routed some more so a straight stick could be set in place.

Voila! Instant SSHM Jig, where the bend is the same each time.

Now it's just a matter of measuring and marking for the position of each bend.

This is why I left the cross beams in place before. I wasn't sure where to cut them.

Now that I have these pieces in place, I can lop them off.

    Rounded off and sanded down.

After a small application of bondo at the seams, I did some sanding and a quick shot of primer to see where I'm at.

Looks like there's a bit more work to be done here before the joints are no longer visible. Then its on to the other end!

3 WOW's in a row! :hehe: Thanks guys, I am really trying to push for the "wow" factor on this one, so it's nice to know that what I'm doing is working.

I intend on getting a ton of work done on this over the holiday weekend, so look for mega updates! :naughty:

Anything I say here would just be repetitive in conjunction to what others have said already. Amazing work, man. Amazing.

Frackin' awesome!!! 8D I'm a fan of BSG (cant wait for S04), and as I've mensioned before in other posts I'm also a great fan of exellent attention to detail and superb finnish, this project has both... and sci-fi to boot.. lovin it! ^_^

This log also holds special interest for me since I'm planning a project that's also sci-fi oriented and will contain polystyrene model building.. wich is something I've never atempted before, so I'm hoping to pick up some tips from your log. I love the wooden jig you made for example! Good to know that polystyrene can easily bent using heat w/o ruining it! =)

Btw, what kind of primer do you use?

    Keep it up! *subscribed*

Wow! That's awesome. Thanks for the nomination Bit-Tech! :D I'm honored to be even considered along side the other mods this month.

@Mother Gooser: Thanks man! Wait til you see the other parts of the case. I will try not to disappoint! :cooldude:

Thanks Macros! Yeah, styrene is really soft stuff and easy to work with. This is my first time using it, although after working with acrylic, this stuff is waaaayy more forgiving.
The primer I'm using is a standard rattle can gray. Nothing special.

Congratulations on the MoM nomination! I'd say 'good luck,' but you wil probably win anyway!:hehe:
I have a few friends I sent the Bit Tech link who will probably choose your build over mine...-HUGE BSG fans.

I have always wanted to build one of those giant scratchbuilt battleship models. Your build restarted that urge. My next mod will be highly influenced by your log.:D

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the comments! Keep 'em coming! :thumb:

Thanks Cheapskate! But there are quite a few amazing works up for MoM this month, your's included. I wouldn't count yourself out just yet!

I feel your pain with the acrylic. I did a scratch-build airplane mod completely out of acrylic, and it was a challenge. Learned a lot, but I don't think I will do it again anytime soon! Good luck and keep it up!

Thanks. I'm not sure I'm feeling much pain, though.:hehe: I'm actually pretty comfortable working with acrylic. I had a friend in plastic recycling, and I was lucky to have destroyed thousands of dollars of worth of bad plexi experimenting. :D
