Just built a new pc with Windows XP sp2. Using an MSI NX8600gts 256 mb ram video card 2gb ram on board 500 gb sata hdd Asus 8an sli premium mobo The onboard realtek 97 sound . AMD 64 am2 4400 dual core processor. Have installed all latest drivers for mobo, video card, sound. Manually installed Directx 9c and ran a test and all worked fine- Tried installing titan quest and installing latest patch. Game starts to title screen, however when I try to change settting or start the game proper it looks like it trying to change screen resolution and crashes, I have to restart the PC to recover. Tried instalæling and running X3 as well, just in case it was just titan quest and it crashes in a similar way. help please.
Hmm, tried installing the windows dual core hotfix and the AMD processor optimiser. All the latest patches and so on, still no joy. However one thing is my video card requires power form a 4 pin molex connection, my Hiper type R 580watt psu has a PCIe-e port that has an putput for a 6 pin plug, which does not fix the 4 pin molex. I'm going to try and get a converter to convert 6 pin to a 4 pin molex today, if such as thing exists. Failing that, I'm gonna check the outputs on the PSU and see which oines are split between the 2 12 volt rails and separate out the Vid card from the rest of the PSU. If that doesn't work, I dunno what I'm gonna do.
just a fyi. I tried changing the PSU for an Antec 500watt psu and it worked perfectly, so it was a dodgy PSU (Hiper type r 580 watt modular). Back to the manufacturer then for a new PSU.
Try going to the Nvidia control pannel and set the settings to application controlled. The newer driver's I found quit out of games and reboot the computer and I know it's not my PSU. But i was using 7600GT in SLI mode at the time and games were quiting with the latest drivers
I tried a different PSU which worked fine. I then sent the Hiper PSU back and the shop I bought it from tested it and found it to be faulty. The Corsair hx620 was the replacement I wanted (just didn't trust hiper any more). It works fine and I'm happy bunnies now.
