Power effiancy

    What would use the lease amount of power playing dvd's on move. player from the DVD drive or from the hard drive.

    i dont think that the difference would be enough to notice.

    I agree the the difference would be negligible, but probably playing from the hard drive would take less power because it's already spinning. It really would be a small difference though.

    It is a big difference, at least it is on my laptop...

    Play from the HD => Only HD is spinning.
    Play from DVD => HD and DVD are spinning.

    I'm not saying it's times 2 the difference, but it'll be close to 1.5-1.6x

    Not to mention the noise coming from the spinning DVD compared to the relative silence of the HD...

    The HD would take less I suppose. both for the reason Glider has stated and for the fact that a HD is an almost perfectly closed system, so the disks are well lubricated, takes less power to get it spinning, and it spins slower.
