Graphics Core clock 576 MHz on a 8800gtx?

Hi

I am running an 8800gtx. When I look at the hardware monitor in RivaTuner, it tells me the core clock is 576 MHz. I thought the gtx ran at 650 MHz ....

The core temp is only 56 C at idle (42 C ambient). Does this sound right or is my card underclocked?

The stock core clock for the 8800 GTX is 575MHz

 

Nope, the stock 8gtx clocks in at 575mhz - the stock 8ultra at 612mhz.
Temps are in the norm, a little overclocking would'nt hurt.

 

Does seem low my GTS G92 has a core clock of 750mhz on this OC.

 

Totally different architecture thus different clocks; the 8800GTX and 8800ULTRA are based on the G80

 

Ahh, I automatically assumed we was on the G92.

 

my 8800GTX XXX is clocked at 630mhz, that's the O/C'd version of the XFX model. So 575 sounds about right, shouldnt be hard to knock it up a touch though ?

 

and don't forget, clock for clock, G80 beats G92 without question.

How fast a card is depends on a number of factors, clock speed, number of stream processors, memory bandwidth to name some of the biggest.

G80 and G92 are fundamentally the same core architecture, but G92 uses a smaller process, which allows for higher clock speeds.

When putting together some of the G92 cards nvidia scaled back some of the elements because they didn't feel they were really needed and would rather drop the cost of the cards - in the case of the GTX they dropped the memory bandwidth a fair bit, so while the newer card has more raw power because of a bit higher clock speed, it can be held back (especially at higher resolutions) by that.

On the other hand I'd take an 8800GT (G92) over an 8800GTS 320/640mb (G80) any day, since its much faster

 

of course, GT vs G80 GTS is no question.

but i'd take my 8800GTX over 8800GTS G92 any day for it's superior performance at high level AA and smoother gameplay (see all Dx10 benchmarks on Bittech, GTX always have higher minimal FPS)
