I am making a edge lit LED sign for my dads shop.This is the first time I have done this.While engraving I had a few run offs that go out of the engraving. These are not that deep but they look like crap up close. How would I remove them? They can be seen in this this picture. They dont show that well in this picture.(Good thing) 30 14,000MCD LEDs spaced 1.5in apart. Letters are 2in tall and the plexiglas is 9x24in
They are not that deep. I was using the flex shaft with the engraving bit on high. It more like skipped then cut in, a few where just marks in the protective film but these cut threw the film. As for the novus scratch removers any chance of finding it locally?
Cheapskate turned us all on to using Comet cleanser. mnpctech used it on one of his big pieces of acrylic and it worked. I have used Novus forever but the Comet is like dollar store cheap. Try it first. Cheaps will probably find this thread and add comments on how to use it. If not PM him. john
damn, you guys got here first! The comet and novus ideas were top of the mind here. (and of course, no paper towels, some nice soft cloth is called for.) BTW, nice sign, it looks good!
before you use novus get some super fine grit paper to make the scratch smaller and smaller start out like around 400 grit then go on to 600 and finush up with 1000 after use novus trust me youll get better results sanding it down with fine! if you go to my profile and look at the thread i posted a few mnths back it should help
Maybe I dont know how to remove scratches very good but I had rubbed sandpaper on my case window to give a fogged look which didnt work and instead made it ugly. I then used soap water and sanded with different grits up to like 2500 or 3000 and i couldnt get them out.
I'm not certain on how to do it but there is this stuff called PlastX? might work, never used it personally, i have some scratches int he acrylic I'm using for my mod so I'll be watching this for some info as well. hope you find something that works, nice sign also.

Abrasive paper/cloths are too coarse for what you need. I use polywatch on small items, but have heard of both toothpaste and brasso being used to restore DVDs, and they're polycarbonate. Autosol also works to some extent. Use lots of pressure and rub across the scratches
The Comet is to replace 400 grit sandpaper in tight places. Here you need sandpaper. I fear you might need to fill in the damaged areas with a gel plexi glue, then sand them smooth. It looks pretty deep. Is your dad an astronaut porn star?

I only have a bottle of fine novus. +1 on what TotalEntrophy said. If you don't want to spend money on polish, you can use a polish from the garage.
Brasso did not work that well. I tried to use some Meguiar's clear plastic cleaner http://meguiarsdirect.com/detail/MEG+M1708 . That is actually working quite well. The weather was bad so I went to the closest auto parts store and found Napa.
Yeah, I had 2 sets go out the other day. I don't know if it's the weather or the mistreatment of the wires. It's probably a bad connection or a single bad LED hosing the chain.
