I'm looking to order a new Graphics Card, and was wondering which would be better. A GTX 260 or a 9800GTX+.

Also will my motherboard support 2 GTX260's?

The GTX 260, either the 192SP or 216SP version, would be faster. Your motherboard will support 2-way SLI with GTX 260s.

The 260 is a much better card. It is on the G200 architecture which is far superior to the G92 which the 9800GTX is on. The 9800GTX may have more graphics memory, but the graphics core on the 260 is much better.

And yes, your motherboard will support 2x 260s in both SLI and out of it.

It really depends on the native resolution of your monitor, but in most games the 216 SP version is around 2-3 FPS faster than the 192 SP version.

Here's a link for you to compare the two.

EDIT: To complicate things, there's actually 2 versions of the 216 stream processor card - one based on the 65nm manufacturing process and one is based on the 55nm. All of the 192 SP cards are 65nm.

Link doesn't work, and my monitor is a 1920X1080 resolution. Problem is I have just enough to buy the 192 version, and I think it would suffice for the games I want to play really (CoD4, WoW, Eve online etc)

Yeh it should cope very nicely in everything except Crysis, Warhead and Stalker which just eat up stream processors.

I run the 192 version.. it's a really good card to oc- just have to keep it cool.. with re-tim and fan at 100% here's the clocks I run for 1080p gaming

    clk/shader/mem

    783/1566/1157 (volt modded 100% fan)
    756/1512/1134 (stock voltage 100% fan)
741/1512/1157 (stock voltage 100% fan- pretty much the same performance as @756)
    725/1512/1107 (all stock)

it beats a oc'd 280 in vantage at these speeds which has considerably more shaders.. runs games at 1080p just fine- but if you can pickup the 216 for the same price there's no reason not to.. if your not ocing I dunno, all the cards out are pretty much weak and overpriced imo except that new 4770- all thanks to the ati/nvidia price fixing that went on for years (since 2002) finally seeing realistic prices nowdays

*edit owned the original 9800gtx also.. used to run that with cod4 just fine with the aa cranked- if that's what you play.. ran fine at 820clk- it's really just a better clocking 8800gt.. the 260 is the better card of the two- you wouldn't know it by the numbers.. well now what are they calling it nowdays who knows

Didn't rate Stalker much, and not appealed by Crysis, so all good lol.

Yeah, I didn't realise they had a profanity filter on URLs on these forums :duh:

This should work - it's the first link, you can probably see why it was edited out.

Yeah got it. Tbh the reviews show that the cards will be good on resolutions higher than mine, so there isn't as much importance between the 2 for me being on a smaller resolution.

Well, guess I'm going 216 now. Price went back up to £140, so £2 is worth the better performance.
