hi I am wanting to build a PC for using 3DS max on, as well as other autocad programs, but want advice on what conponents to use. i was going to use- AMD phenom x2 550 (no o/c) Asus M4A785TD-V EVO 4GB DDR3 Ram (any) ATi Radeon HD 5770 1TB samsung spinpoint (these file can get big) Any CPU cooler Antec 300 i am looking for advice also on a good PSU and whether or not to upgrade my ram to 8GB instead of just 4GB and does anyone run these programs and what systems do you have to run them if anyone could suggest a good system for about £500GBP that would be great.
for rendering you seriously should look at getting a Quad core, personally i would drop the 5770 from the build and put money into a decent i7 build with 6Gb ram. I use to run 3DS max, but i moved onto solidworks and use maxwell render or photoview for rendering now. It all depends on what you're doing exactly, you at uni? if so what course? CPU grunt is the key area!
I do not need a monitor, keyboard or mouse or a o/s because ive already got these its just the hardware i need
Could you recomend a good I7 build or even a I5 build for about £500 I thought programs like 3ds max needed alot of graphics power to run them or is it more cpu intensive? I am not at uni at the minute but will be starting a course in product design @ sheffield Hallam uni in september of this year, but i want to get some practice with the software and it will come in handy for my A-level design course im just finishing
i wouldnt skimp on the gfx card to much or your view ports will start to get very choppy. The graphics cards will render the view ports ie bits you model in, while your CPU will do the final rendering. i thing going for a intel system would be a wiser choice. Check out some of the larger PC builders ie alienware or cyberpower, see what systems they offer and try build one cheaper. Last thing you might want to look at autocad as well if your doing product design, and enjoy uni sheffields a cracking place to study.
ive looked at autocad and i will probably be using that as well, what sort of graphics card would be ideal for a 22" monitor? im gonna check out alien ware and cyberpower, they might do student discounts also i can't wait to go sheffield looks amazing
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-cards-charts-2009-high-quality/3DMark06-v1.1.0-3DMark-Score,1632.html Compair the graphics cards there. It seems that ATI are currently producing the best gfx cards. i think the 5770 would be a good choice. Look at a few reviews bit tech and tomshardware wont steer you wrong. Had a quick check on cyberpower and your looking about 600 quid for a baisic box there. Might be a better idea to get a pre built one if your not sure what your doing.
i'd go with these at a min then: Core i5 750 Gigabyte UD2 4GB DDR3 500w OCZ psu GTX 250 GPU Thats gonna set you back around 450 depending where you go, then you obviously need a case and hard drive (well, you dont NEED a case ). Ideally, weather you can stretch now or maybe later, id look at making that 8GB of ram and a GTX260 and maybe a 600w psu. Id also recomend an SSD in the future
is was looking at the I5 750 and the gigabyte mobo after reading a reveiw in CPC, i think im going to go with the gtx 250 with it having the physx and cuda although no direct x11
having had a look around and with help form you guys i think im going to go with this setup I5 750 Gigabyte UD2 DDR3 4GB (will upgrade to 8GB when i get the cash ) 1TB samsung F3 (large files and i have lots of MP3's) GTX 250 500 watt OCZ Psu Antec 300 Freezer 7 pro rev 2 I already have windows 7 pro because i pre-ordered it when it was £100 and i have a pioneer blu-ray drive whch i got for a bargain @£25 last year in the PC world sale thanks for all the help everyone, if any one has any other suggestions or knows anywhere which has any of these parts cheap please comment
you fool, Cad applications require specialist drivers to enable video acceleration in view ports, this is only available with the use of a nvidia Quadro FX or ATI firegl. I would get the cheapest Quadro FX off ebay, i have a FX3450, which is basically a 6800GT, and it monsters my GTX280 in view port rendering.
Don't get a GTS 250, as it's just a rebrand of the 9800, which can be had for around $85, the gts 250 is $130
WTF!....you fool back.. ever heard of openGL acceleration???? Even 3DSMAX does D3D acceleration so you should get your facts right, you obviously dont know how to set up your viewports.
