    Hi folks,

I'm looking for a wireless mouse & keyboard that will cope with at least 4-5m distance from the front of the HTPC. Can't be infra-red or anything that needs line-of-sight though.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks!

I use jumi on my ipone for long distances.
Normally my MS MCE keyboard works fine but that's IR.

A dinovo might do you do that soft of range

I can use the smartphones or PSPs too as well as the remote control, but i need a mouse/keyboard for general stuff especially if visitors use it for surfing/mail.

A dinovo would be very nice but it would be wasted (and probably dropped).

take a look at the Gyration gear

    http://www.gyration.com

We use them in school, they use RF to communicate and therefore have 30m ish ranges! Can confirm that from using them here too.

The product line is new from the ones we have, this is the new version of what we have:

    http://www.gyration.com/index.php/gb/products/in-air-micekeyboards/go-air-mouse.html

They do the keyboards to go with it, but can't see them on the site currently?!

The main selling point is that you do not need a surface to use the mouse on, it works in the air using gyros, hence the name. Great for living room use!

Used to have a Gyration setup which I got free from a friend (His Uni was throwing them out!).
I now have a Logitech DiNovo Mini for my HTPC. It uses Bluetooth for up to 10m range.

They look really cool devices. Are they any good for FPS gaming too?

I'm looking at getting one of these for now: Keysonic

Probably the ACK540 or one with a trackball. But i'd still like a mouse or something for light gaming so i will put some cash aside for a gyration if they are any good for what i need.

I got a Microsoft Wireless 3000 set for my HTPC.
I very rarely need the keyboard, so that sits down the side of the sofa. I can use the mouse on the arm.

Also, can I just say how useful the windows 7 magnifier is on a 1080p TV across a room?

I'm using a MS wireless combo at the moment with the same receiver as the 3000, but it's just that bit too short on range and after seeing the Keysonic laptop style keyboard, i realise it's just a bit too big for lounge surfing.

I'll try and remember to try the magnifier thingy though. I keep forgetting it exists.

Just came across a neat HTPC keyboard/mouse replacement (if you will) not long ago. Enter the Cideko Air Keyboard. Maybe something worth considering?

I had a look but it's not for me. I reckon it would get really annoying having a keyboard on your knees typing while the mouse cursor flies about all over the place. Neat idea, just not very practical.

    Thanks though! :)
