Hi, Wanted some advice on a budget SSD (would be nice to see a review regarding low end, low cost SSD's) I am thinking of buying the Intel X25-V 40Gb £90 The other options are OCZ Vertex Agility 30Gb £100 OCZ Vertex 30Gb £100 I am sure others can come up with more suggestions! Any input regarding this topic would be helpful Budget £100 Capacity bigger the better, but not expecting over 40Gb
I did'nt think such a thing existed...lol , But I would have suggested the one you've pick out . Not had bad reviews, so might be worth a look.
I used a Intel X25-V for my brothers system and it works a treat. The agility will be faster but £100 for 30GB is just ludicrous.
Put an X25-V in my mum's new PC recently an noticed no difference in speed between it and my Vertex (subjectively that is). Plus the fact you're getting 25% more storage for 10% less cash makes it a no brainer. Only £84.59 at Aria.
Thanks guys for your opinions Yeah the term budget for this may not be quite right I will buy the Intel X25-V over this weekend I think it would be a good idea if the magazine benchmarked these lower end drives
The Vertex is quicker at read / write / whatever than the Intel, and uses the Barefoot controller. Trim is present on firmware 1.5 also.
Well I have ordered my new Intel SSD, should arrive tomorrow sometime Any advice on installing the OS? I was possibly thinking of just doing a install to the SSD(Win7 64bit) & then imaging the drive in case of future firmware updates I believe the trim support should sort out any problems I may see with performance degradation
I can only assume from that remark that you don't have an SSD Oh, and I was looking at getting an SSD pretty soon, although I was looking at the 80GB X25-M for double the price (£160). Is that one any better, or am I literally paying twice the price for twice the capacity?
I bought an OCZ 30GB from Novatech (approx £100). Installed Windows7 and found only around 1.5Gb free. I then followed the guidelines in the OCZ forum to tweak the SSD operation (in particular I wanted to disable the Windows swap file), and freed up more space. There was then around 9Gb free. Does Win7 load faster? I'm not sure as most of the time is spent in the BIOS (splash screen, drive identification, etc.). In trying to hack the registry to move the users to D:\ (spinner) I trashed the installation :-(. I re-installed and tried again, this time I appear to have succeeded. I'm still worried that some apps will use C: for temp files and thrash the memory (which I believe eventually can wear out). So, I probably wouldn't bother with a SSD on my next machine, but it depends what you intend using it for. regards... --Badsector
Ignore the ludicrously uninformed opinion in the above post. Its amazing the amount of ******** that gets posted with absolutely no proof to back it up. You are paying to get twice the capacity, and for much faster speeds. The maximum read speed of the V is 170MB/s, and its 250MB/s for the M. The maximum write speed of the V is 40MB/s and its 80MB/s for the M. So for twice the price, you are getting twice the capacity AND +50/100% write/read speeds. And ignore tards who post crap.
