Can anyone remember Realms of the Haunting? That most excellent action adventure by Tony Crowther. Fabulous story. Another one of my all time favourites.
For me : System Shock (1 & 2) Thief : The Metal Age Vampire Masquerade : Bloodlines Beyond Good and Evil Full Throttle
+1 Mass Effect series (no shocker there) Mention for Freelancer though - whilst the main plot was the definition of linear, it was awesome.
Steamworks of Arcanum hands down... though Betrayal at Krondor is one of the most immersive and solid tales of any game, the scope of the story itself isn't that huge. Wingcommander had a good story, but honestly it couldn't stand on its own without its prequels and books (we need a modern day Wing Commander game, my joysticks getting dusty... HAWX is ok but the nearest hope for the system is the upcoming Mechwarrior) *EDIT* PS Final Fantasy 7 and 8 were released on PC
Is that "Arcanum - Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura" you're thinking about? If so, that was a pretty good game.
The Warcraft world has had a very long storyline to it which is still unfolding. Would like to buy one of the Warcraft books. Half-Life series also has a good storyline.
Yeah, sorry I was in the Beta (thanks to Sierra Magazine or whatever it was called) and for some reason always think of it dislexic like...
Seriously, what's the deal with this one? I played through Mass Effect 1 because everyone said "it's worth playing for the storyline alone" so I put up with the frankly boring gameplay in order to experience this storyline. It was tired and predictable and dull. Mass Effect 2 came out and everyone went nuts saying how absolutely amazing the storyline was, best storyline of whatever bloody year it plopped into our solar system. So I eventually think "Right, I'll give it a shot then, maybe it's less mediocre than the first" - was it f***! Evil space aliens want to end all life and destroy civilisation. Jesus christ guys, have none of you picked up a single sci fi book in your lives? I honestly actually pity people who think Mass Effect 2 had the best PC story line of all time. It just shows how much you've missed out on.
People don't read much these days, there just isn't time until you hit middle age and get married. Reading is like building houses and cleaning out attic space, you just never get round to it. And people who do read, proud literary types, tend to be snobs who turn their noses up at the sci-fi genre (which is a mistake). Trying to read Foundation, though, I could almost understand why. It's bloody impenetrable.
Or the Thief series. Thief 2: The Metal Age especially is a piece of brilliance you need to have in your life. +1 for these too: System Shock Deus Ex Beyond Good and Evil Planescape Torment Vampire: Bloodlines
Freelancer STALKER series (Come on it's a good storyline) Halo (When the books are involved) Fallout New Vegas - this one's a little more fun and gets a mention because I can do what I want on that game
