I've just managed to build my new Core i7 system. Just checking in the BIOS it states I have 2040GB of RAM available. My build has 3 sticks of 2GB in triple channel format. Will the full 6gb be available once I've installed 64 Bit Windows 7? Is the BIOS setup just limited to what it can use rather than what is in my system?

Have u tried re-sitting the RAM? If that doesn't work try one at a time make sure they all work. And then u could try moving them into the next channel

Oh 64-bit Windows won't have an impact on the BIOS in that way!

So when I check the BIOS before windows is installed on the system it should say 6xxx gb of memory available rather than 2040? (sure the binary number nearest should be 2048 but hey-ho)

You should see the 6GB in the BIOS. Make sure you set the main RAM timings manually i.e. the first 4 e.g. 9-9-9-24. I assume you haven't tried overclocking it yet?

But surely the timings aren't going to effect how much RAM is recognised by the BIOS?

Some motherboards set lower timings unless the XMP profile is used. If they do that then sometimes the full amount of RAM isn't recognised. Also if the QPI/VTT voltage is too low then some RAM may not be recognised. Unless the OP has overclocked it then the Auto settings should have enough voltage.

So have you reseated the RAM, manually set the timings, tried MemTest, altered voltages, overclocked or anything?

Have you swapped the sticks about and tried every slot to check if you have a bad stick or slot.(ie try every stick by its self, then check each stick in every slot)

Also have you flashed the latest bios.

Also to answer your first question the Bios is pre OS its doesn't care or even matter if the OS is installed.

Also mate list your system for us thanks

Swapped the sticks etc. Only boots if the three sticks are in. I've a X58 sabertooth mobo, core i7 950, corsair Xms 1600 ddr3 2gb x 3. I'm thinking its the mobo slots or some BIOS auto setting. GRumble grumble ...

only boots if 3 sticks are in????? looking like the board mate. Bios settings shouldn't make any difference mate

what slot allocation are you using does it make a difference?

Also have you done the bios flash?

I had exactly the same problem with mine mate, try reseating the cpu and cooler, as that can sometimes cause the problem, try just one stick that you know that works and booting from different slots, if it doesn't boot in certain slots I would bet its the motherboard
