Hmmm, my grandfather was with the americans in the battles around aachen , (the bulge and Hürtgenwald I suppose) and was particularly tight lipped about it. My Grandma housed a few american officers at the time but she also tells next to nothing. Maybe the "Flyboys" have a different perspective of the war
The Pianist 7.5/10 Good plot lines without ever mentioning concentration camps works well based on a real storey.
The Social Network 8/10 Not expecting it to be good (a film about Facebook? How could it be) but the main actor was in the Whale and the Squid which I thouroughly enjoyed and was pleasantly suprised by it. Nice pacing and entertaining most of the way through.
Just finished watching Megamind. Very good movie and having a number of songs from Ozzy, Guns'N'Roses, AC/DC and George Thorogood amongst others didn't hurt either
"The Girl who kicked the hornet's nest" 6/10 and yes, I had to look up the english name first "Luftslottet som sprängdes" "Vergebung" End of the "Millenium" trilogy (for now), but in my opinion, not much more than a wrap up, and a long one for that too. Liked the first two better.
Speaking of films you watch and think what a load of crap. Has anyone here seen 'a serious man'. OMFG, I can't fathom why it got good reviews. It was the biggest load of crap I've seen in a long, long long long time. I also saw how to train your dragon the other day. Was quite enjoyable.
Toy Story 3 5/10 Average in every way. Pixar used to make funny movies, you know? Apparently, a fourth book was about 3/4 done. I wouldn't wonder if that one gets filmed too. On the other hand, before that come the american remakes
I wouldn't rate it as low as that; but it's definately not as good as the first 3. That's what happens when you change directors - the problem that ruined the Harry Potter franchise in fact. Lee Unkrich went a bit too "dark" and the MPAA's Classification and Ratings Administration (the US equivalent of the BBFC) have since said it should have been a PG.
watched a film on Sunday .. based on a true story of a Japanese Dr & his dog. Obviously the yanks adopted it and made it a story about a University Lecturer and his dog.. Synopsis...Bloke and dog bond..bloke dies at work..dog waits at train station fo him every day the next 9 years to return home.. then dies .. needless to say I started to watch it thinking this is guff .. finished off crying my bloody eyes out .. what a touching film .. Wouldnt recommend it to anyone ..unless its watching with a new chick who is into sensitive men
oh ...I cant remember the name of the film either as it had just started when I flicked over .. sorry I am no great shakes at being a film critic huh .. lol
Not a movie but TV Series. Started watching the Legend of the seeker (Based on the legend of the seeker books which I am enjoying, even though I'm only on the 5th of 12 or 13) I've just finished episode 16 or 17 out of I believe 22 episodes for the 1st season. It is cheesy and in comparison to the book it isn't as great, but that was expected. I'm enjoying the series but after reading the book everything is different which is annoying and some of the acting is meh. To be generous i'd give it a 7 / 10. The actress that plays Khalen is rather attractive I'm planning on watching the 2nd season of spartacus (god's of the arena) I believe. Has anyone started? I really enjoyed the 1st season.
The obvious and oft-made observation is that it's not a 'nam film at all, or at least shouldn't be watched as one. To paraphrase one of my lecturers: "shockingly inaccurate and irrelevant as a film about the Vietnam war but very true to the spirit of the book on which it's based". It's a film about Vietnam in the same way that Fight Club is a film about boxing.
