I didn't notice that one was AF and one was not... my mistake.

FWIW I rarely use AF on my Sigma macro - manual focus is so much better @ 1:1.

link to the one you got?

Pfff, with a sigma, manual focus is what you want at any range tbh. :D

For me, the only time I've wanted more than 1:2 is for bugs, which I don't really shoot. That, and the fact that if I do shoot a bug it's more a bug in a particular scene, than one of those bug 'portraits'. Speaking of which I did get mine more for a few detail shots during weddings and the odd portrait.

What, so the guy has an AF-D not an AI-S?

Since those are the only two Micro Nikkor 105/2.8 lenses I know of that predate the 105VR I'd assume so.

just had some fun with my new softbox:
so my gear is as follows:
    Good old d90

The nifty fifty (just love this thing... i rarely use the polarizer though since the colors are brilliant most of the times, just got it real cheap)

sigma 70-300 (i really regret buying this piece of crap... slow, washed out colors, blurry pictures, broken AF after using it just a few times in 2 years without any drops or bumps)

Sb 400 (small but does the trick)

cheap softbox off amazon, chines ettl wire and manfrotto modo tripod (real happy with this one!)

    el-cheapo trigger

    diy reverse ring

    DIY steadycam

And gear provided by my workplace...
canon 5D mkII + 24-70mm f/2.8 L (fast, sharp, good quality and the crop is awesome but i really miss the nikon interface and layout)

and this baby is awesome! works with my D90 in manual mode... all the photos here exept the flash and D90 itself are a combo of this and the nikon...:D

    Excuse the cam phone pic. My new bag for my trip to south africa. I won't be taking everything, but wanted a bag that could fit the 300 f2.8 AI IF comfortably. So from top left;
    (All Nikon) 70-300VR f4.5-5.6
    35 F2D
    105 f2.8 Micro AI-S
    85 f1.8 AF-D
    In the middle,
Nikon 300 f2.8 IF ED AI-S mounted on Nikon D80
Behind it on the right in the middle; Nikon D700 with 50 1.8D AF-D
    Bottom; 70-200 f2.8 VRII
    Next to the above; 24-70 f2.8 AF-S
    Two flashes, sb-800, sb-900

It's actually a lot lighter than I thought it would be. Perfectly hand holdable. It's made to look a lot longer with the built in hood.

Nikon 16-35 F4 AF-S VR added to the collection. Will post a group shot when it arrives.

Going to Rome again, so bougnt this. I couldn't justify getting the 14-24 and having it sit around afterwards, so at least with this, I know it's a more versatile piece of kit, so will see more use. That it it takes filters, and if I do decide to use it for landscapes (quite likely), the VR could come in handy, and if not, then I'll be using it with flash. Shame it won't be as sharp across the frame or as wide as the 14-24, but that's something I can live with, I think.

Yes, but what will sit on either end of the TC my good man? (I felt like having it in the picture) Rear and and body cap, i.e I'm one short. Or rather it's just in it the cameras box somewhere.

Damn those are pricey for what you get but hey, what do I know. If you 'gotta have it', ya gotta have it.

*Recent changes to my gear include getting rid of the 70-300VR, as well as the 300 f2.8 AI-S. Am also thinking of getting rid of my 105 Micro ai-s, and getting maybe the 60mm f2.8 Micro AF-S, not sure.

    Mmmm, Leica.

I'm on the edge of ordering an M7 TTL in black from the a la carte system to replace my M5.
