Hello, It's finally time to retire my old Core 2 6600 and 8800GTX bundle which has happily lasted me from the past 4 or so years. With the likes of Skyrim/Battlefield 3 coming out soon, I would like your suggestions on a build list no more than £800. An SSD upgrade would be nice as my Windows boot but can ultimatly live without if it affords me a longer lasting system (Can upgrade later to an SSD). Current Resolution is 1650 x 1050 with no near future plans to go larger. I'm not shy of trying an overclock! I already have the following list which won't require upgrading: 2 Monitors Keyboard/Mouse 2 * 1.5TB storage drives used in mirror Raid DVD Writer Thanks!
£155- Intel i5 2500k £103- Msi P67A-GD53 £180- Msi Gtx 560 Ti Twin Frozr||/oc £82- 64gb Crucial M4 £82- Antec HCG-750 High Current Gamer 750W £192- Silverstone FT02B-W Case £6 short
Is gaming the only thing you really stress any componant? Also you say you use 1650x1050 but have 2 monitors, do you have a multi-monitor setup? I would suggest something like the 2500k CPU (you can get cheaper, but not much with SB), a cheap P67 board (MSI and Asus are my choice right now), A GTX560 or 6870 GPU. These will run any game at max settings on your resolution. Any higher is a waste unless you plan to upgrade the monitor. 8GB of RAM because its cheaper than tap water right now. A case you like the look of. A 1 or 2TB Samsung F3 drive, or Western Digital Black. Both are excellent drives and very good value for money.
Really? Almost £200 on the case instead of adding more power to the gfx card? :/ You could cut a little off the case and spend it on this GTX 570 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1280...-40nm-4000mhz-gddr5-gpu-770mhz-shader-1540mhz
Agreed. Get something like a Raven, and spend more on performance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hello all, Thanks for the help so far. It is correct that I have 2 monitors, but my main widescreen is the 1680 res and don't plan to upgrade that any time soon. £200 for a case. Unless I was exhibiting the case in my hallway for visiotrs to wow at, I think this may be a little high safe to say Interesting point about Bulldozer Mucgoo. How does this new chip line actually compare to the i5/i7 range? I guess if anything it will help drive prices down on the Intel lines, but not sure how long I can wait for this to happen.
Apart from rumours and questionable leaks little is known. It seems as though it will be a worse performer core for core but it should push down prices. You've waited 4 years so what is one more week? Look at the fractal r3 £70 for a discreet quiet case.
If i was upgrading now id hold on for amds new chips. Then see how the market is. Ram is really cheap now so get some fast 8gb stuff 1600mhz min. I have the msi GTX560Ti and its fine at 1920x1080.
My rig, without the SSD, cost just over £700. With the SSD it's about £800, so take out the SSD and get yourself a 570 and you'll be set
