So, I'm listening to stuff that I've got added on Spotify right now and skipping a lot, realizing I'm bored with most of the music I've added. I'm looking for something a bit different but not really sure where to start. My music taste is pretty varied but I mostly go toward rock and metal so looking for something outside of rock/metal.

Blues: I'm really only familiar with B.B. King and Stevie Ray Vaughan

Rap/hip hop: I like some of Jay-Z and Outkast's stuff. more into the old-school and/or 'underground' sound though.

'Trip-Hop': Portishead seems to be the only group that does it right. I'd love to be proven wrong on that though.

Country: Only person I've found that I can listen to is Johnny Cash mostly for his lyrics in older music.

So, Bit-Tech community, any suggestions in those genres?

Blues: Son House, Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, White Stripes, Rival Sons, Snooks Eaglin, (I could go on for eternity here but yeah, that's enough for now). Rival Sons are essentially rock but extremely blues based, Led Zep style. By far my favourite new band for a good few years.

Rap/Hip Hop: Bus Driver, Chali 2na, Immortal Technique

Trip Hop: Massive Attack, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Air, R2DJ, Fourtet, Zero 7, The Avalanches, Quantic.

    Country.. erm, yeah...

    That should do for now.

Also do you have Spotify? I've got invites if you want one being one of those Americans they have these days.

Blues; try some Joe Bonamassa for size. Also John Mayer, not quite blues, more mellow rock.

Thanks. Some names there in the Blues that I'd heard the name and intended to check out but never had. Haven't heard of Rival Sons, I'll definitely check it all out though. Trip hop, I've heard Massive Attack, some of their stuff is OK. Haven't heard of the rest. I am on Spotify, thanks for the offer, I think I got in the day it opened in the US.

Try some of the old school Ska from the '50s and 60's. Byron Lee and the Dragonaires and a few others.

Additionally, if you want something off the wall that I've been going mental over the last few weeks, try out AA=. Side project from The Mad Capsule Markets by Takeshi Ueda. Bloody awesome stuff.

I would reccomend just listening to the hype machine. The style and genre vary hour by hour, the mood also changes throughout the week.

check out That1Guy, he is pretty awesome, but i dont know what to classify his music as. Red Sparowes is some good ambient stuff. and even though its still rock, id suggest the band Graveyard. they're really bluesy and sound like they're from the 70s

Check out Dustin Kensrue 'Please Come Home' - its the singer from Thrice's solo country project. I don't like country but I like this!

Also, if you are willing check out one of Above and Beyonds 'Trance Around The World' podcasts - they are free on itunes every week and are absolutely brilliant!

would you happen to have a link to AA=? Google is pretty much only giving me alcoholics anonymous pages and it doesn't seem to be on Spotify.
