This is my first post here outside the " folding " forum.. I am looking for a couple of game ideas for a small christmas Lan party at home. We have plenty of high spec computers so its all about came play and giggles. Ideas please guys. Thanks.
-Borderlands for Co-Op goodness (4 player) -BF3 for good squad play and co-ordination. -One of the Test Drive games for LAN driving fun (make sure to download some user created tracks)
Diablo 2! The daddy of all LAN games. Total Annihilation. Old but awesome. Also Quake 3 arena would be a good bet or any lanable quake game. I'm not too sure on modern LAN games although Borderlands as has already been suggested is a good bet.
As far as modern games go? Saints Row 3 (A right bloody riot with enough people.), Call of Duty 4 is the last of the lot to properly support it (Besides Black Ops), Supreme Commander, Minecraft (Obviously).
Supreme Commander Forged Alliance, Left 4 Dead 2 is awesome in LAN, Battlefield 3 (my favourite game of all time possibly) edit: Oh and Call of Duty World at War for the Co-Op campaign! Its A-mazing!
you might need to download an ipx driver for red alert 2 and the likes. Oh and don't play anno 2070 'cause you won't have time for anything else then.
Definitely not BF3, as there's no LAN support, and if you mean playing as a 4-man squad in a 64 player game, just do that from home. I had a LAN here yesterday, and have them around 10 times a year, usually 4-8 of us. Games we indulge in are: Left 4 Dead 2 (if 4 or 8 people) Dawn Of War II: Retribution (6 player limit) Dirt 2 (3 would now be better, 8 player limit) Flatout (8 player limit) Call of Duty 4/Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 with AlterIW.net + user maps which better fit low player numbers Trackmania Borderlands (4 player max) Company of Heroes (8 player limit) Civilisation IV/V Also worth a look depending on who and what they like: Total War games: Shogun II/Medieval II with Stainless Steel/LOTR 3.0 Blur Any LAN-enabled shooter if there's more than 6 of you From our experience, if there's less, go for the co-op, strategy and racing genres, if there's more, go for competitive/versus games, and racing.
I still have a copy of Generals around somewhere. The best part is - the serial key for it is stored in plain text in the registry. So it is trivial to go in, change it, then avoid any of the duplicate serial key errors!
Games that haven't been mentioned: Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2004. Master of orion 2, Starcraft, Battlefield 2, Titan Quest Immortal Throne, Dawn of war 1, Terraria. Games that have been mentioned: +1 for Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, C&C games (especially red alert 2), Company of Heroes, Civ games.
+1 for sup com, C&C, ( red alert yuris revenge / generals zero hour ) Unreal tournament Age Of Empires 2 Comany Of Heroes are my current favs
