i've got £120 to spend on a psu, what should i get? i havde one 470 gtx at the mo but will be getting another in july and then maybe another at some point rest of my system I5 760 CPU, Asus p7p55d Pro Motherboard, Coolermaster CPU Cooler, 4gb ram, asus 470 gtx, 1tb hdd
Is the CPU overclocked or are you likely to overclock in the future? My feeling on the graphics cards is that you would be better off getting a AMD GCN or Nvidia Kepler based card rather than another GTX470. However, until they have been released and their performance benchmarked it is difficult to really decide.
Here is a nice Corsair HX850w £125 PSU on AMAZON, cheaper than SCAN's website. If you in UK Here is link http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CMP...6954/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325928102&sr=8-1
Based on your current system you would need a minimum of a 550W PSU. If you added a 2nd GTX 470 you would need a minimum of a 750W PSU and for a third GTX 470 you would need a minimum of a 950W PSU. In terms of which PSU you could purchase: In the 550W category you could pick up something like: Antec TruePower New 550W @ £60 OCZ ZT 550W @ £65 Corsair TX550M @ £77 In the 750W category you could pick up something like: Antec TruePower New 750W 80 Plus @ £79 OCZ ZT 750W @ £81 Corsair TX750M @ £88 In the 950W + category it is a bit of a struggle to find much within your budget. The only PSU worth suggesting is the Coolermaster Silent Pro M 100W @ £119 but this is not quite the same quality of the lower powered units I have suggested.
I don't know how you're going to run three GTX 470s on a P55 motherboard... Or whether it would be worthwhile. Silverpower SS-850M 850W 80Plus Silver Modular £100 http://www.scan.co.uk/products/850w...ilver-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet-fan-atx-v23 Based on the Seasonic M12D 850 and comes with a Sanyo Denki fan, unlike the XFX rebadges.
so confusing, there some good looking units there I really want to make sure that the unit lasts several upgrades. do you think i would b e better saving a bit more and going bigger?
I would be buying second hand, as you can pick them up for £120 nowadays i think you would be hafrd pushed to get a better solution for thed price
Not really, you sell your one for £120 and spend £240 on a GTX 570 brand new. Not going to get those big frame rates that the SLI will when it works. But it's going to be much nicer MASSIVELY quieter and draw far less power while still being a good upgrade fps increase wise.
Yep. 570 @ stock is on average 15fps more than stock 470. OC it though, and that gap jumps to 25fps. Not as much as 2x 470s... But you can add another 570 later in the year when the prices drop some more. Much better cards.
would i be able to hold off buying a psu for a while then, i've currently got a Jeantech Arctic 600W fully modular PSU (i know its not great, thats why i was gonna replaced it) the card is a asus 470, not sure if that makes a difference? What would thed frame increas of an oc 470 be?
Ive got the same PSU, it may not be brilliant but the rails seem bullet proof ive got the OCZ 750 modular mentioned earlier coming Monday only because i need a PSU which is PCIe 2 compatible Otherwise id be keeping the jeantech.
how would i test the rails, ive been having problems with bf3 and i was told it was probably due to the psu
Got one of these for a friends build (2500k @ 4.8GHz & 580) as Jonnyguru (the masters of PSU reviews) rated it very very highly
might of found the problem to my bf3 problems after reading a thread on here, if so i'll probably hold off buying either and get an ssd and some ram
