Visually it's a wonderful spectacle and Fassbender is the star of the show but the script is preachy and overblown and too full of itself. Imagine a cross between Lost in so far as nothing gets resolved, the new Star Trek movie in terms of style and general tone and Contact for the over intellectualised religious squabbling. It's silly forgettable nonsense that unfortunately won't be resolved until we see yet another bloody trilogy.
Oh - I just watched the trailer. I see why y'all were disappointed. It didn't hint at what the movie was about, it just showed all the hints from the movie about what the movie was about! tbh to make the movie fit the trailer it would probably have to be about 5 hours long =\ That's why I don't watch trailers, it's more exciting seeing it all for the first time and not knowing what scenes to expect.
Get the pitchforks ready... I've never seen an Alien movie. Well, until I saw Prometheus last night. Some friends invited me along assuming I understood what it was, I accepted out of having nothing better to do. Teelzebub took the words out of my mouth: thrown together. A bunch of unrelated scenes slapped together with a painfully bland script to barely hold it all together. The beginning in particular did not interest me at all, if I was watching on Netflix and not the theater I'd likely have turned it off and watched something else. The setup for the plot and setting is extremely weak, the characters barely even get introduced and various things happen with little to no explanation, such as everyone suddenly ending up on a spaceship in the first place. Because of this the rest of the movie isn't interesting because there's no attachment to the characters or their actions. I'd almost prefer watching spaceships fly around on alien planets for two hours, the setting and visuals were excellent and by the far the best part of the movie.
There is a different view why the engineers hate us, we killed their emissaries 2000 - 3000 years ago its a long read but worth it http://cavalorn.livejournal.com/584135.html
I stopped reading at space jesus. Edit. I carried on reading and wished I had stopped where I said earlier, it just makes me facepalm even more.
So Ridley Scotty says there will be an extended Blu ray cut, can't say I'm surprised. http://collider.com/ridley-scott-prometheus-deleted-scenes-interview/172202/
Normal 3D, can't get the missus to IMAX as she can't see the point in spending the extra for 'just a bigger screen'
