Hi all Have been searching for a definitive answer on this one, from what I can tell theres a LOT of split opinions on this. I have a 850w COrsair modular PSU and I want to run 2 GTX850's in SLI. My CPU IS overclocked...(specs in sig)... What you sayin? Cheers
You'll be fine, I run the same setup from my Corsair 850, with overclocks etc... probably plenty of headroom too.
With an overclocked i7 970 and a pair of 580 GTX my power usage under typical rather than full load (3DMark11) is around 630W. If I put a decent overclock on the 580s then power usage rises to 940W. If I then overclock the 970 to it's max then it gets to just over 1000W.
I assume you have measured with a wall meter? Did you consider PSU efficiency in these numbers? That calculator overestimates by a good amount.
My old i7 950 and 580 sli setup drew 800 watts under furmark ( CPU at 4ghz) 680 sli same CPU is below 500 watts. These are all measured from the wall.
Are you keeping the 460 as a physx card? If so, I think you're pushing the limit. Without the 460, it should be ok as long as you don't plan to overclock the cards.
No I will be getting rid of that. There's not enough room for it as well. I don't think ill have to OC the cards. This is the last upgrade I plan on for this PC.
If your Overclocking the 580s no chance 850 is enough as I've seen 1000 load under furmark when pushing those cards. CPU keep it below 4.4ghz and you will be fine.
Corsair PSUs should be pretty robust, and they have proper overload protection as well. You could try with your current unit, and if it starts powering off intermittently, you'll know what the problem is. You could even grab a wall meter for £5 and check the real power consumption.
I'm having a hard hard time here, I tryed swaping each out and different x16 slots, different power options.. I'm not sure what I have left to do.. Just thought: I DID buy these cards from walmart.com and they are EVGA 03G-P3-1584-TR which is not on the product list on the graphics card page I used Passmark software benchmarking too.. over and over it gets low ratings in the 15-17 FPS.. on a card I used to have (MSI radeon 6950) i hit at least 90 on the same test (it only runs on a 1024x720x32 resolution too..)
