So, just trying to move some files off my NAS onto a USB hard drive

The hard drive is 1.5TB (1.395TB usable)

However, I can only put 1.03GB on it before it says 'the disk is full'

Windows shows a 1.395TB hard drive, with 13.5mb free space, but the files (some TV and movies) only add up to 1029GB.

I've displayed the hidden folders, but it only shows a system volume information file (0 bytes) and some kind of recycle bin folder (also 0 bytes)

Any idea where that 300GB of space has gone?

You could try something like windirstat - maybe that would show something up

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
change SuperHidden to 1 and look again after reboot, may also try looking in cmd with dir to see if anything 'appears'.

Ok, did this, and treesize only seens 1054GB! This is totally weird.

    DISKMGR sees it as 1.395GB

You don't mention your specific NAS set up .. you don't have the disc in RAID with another smaller drive (1TB) do you, or perhaps some setting of the NAS software might be causing some problem?

Edit: sorry was misreading the original post and misunderstood what the problem was.

Ok, so I ran Treesize after unplugging and replugging in the HD and suddenly there appeared 367GB of 'found.000' files! Apparently they are something to do with check disk. Who knows!

Deleted them and ta da! I have my full 1.4TB back!
