I have to say that is one of the most common things I hear form people when they convert to proper wet shaving.

They start off with "I hate shaving, it such a chore, always hurts" and nearly always switch straight to "this is so cool, I enjoy shaving now".

got me one of those cheapy wilkinson sword classics about a month ago - getting on brilliantly with it so decided to take the plunge on a Muhle R89, some 7 o'clock blades + free derby blades, proraso cream and a vulfix 404 badger + boar brush

can't wait for my hair to grow back so I can shave again!

I did that the other week pulling the top off my Futur.
Pulling razor blades out of your thumb kinda sucks.

Same, finger and thumb on the sides, failure to budge, applied more pressure, *sping* noise and blade embedded in my thumb.

If I haven't had a shave in a while (4-5+ days), I'll change the blade, failing that, every 6 or so shaves.

Me, about every five shaves. When the blade starts to tug, you know it's time.

    Don't overtighten the head...

I cant get on with a wet shave

Tried it many times and i find it very painfull as the shaver pulls my hair rather than cuts :what:

And i have to shave everyday... thats how fast it grows

    @ Kirk46

I shave everyday as well and don't have this problem. It sounds like it might be the angle you're holding the razor at. If I hold it closer to the 90 degree angle than say at 45 degrees, it usually pulls more.

It depend of the blades, between 3 and 6 for me. I'm DE shaving for more than a year and never had this problem : / But from what I heard, he is not the first to cut himself with a Merkur Futur, it is a slipery razor.

I figured it would be about 4 shaves, depending on the amount of passes you do and how thick yer beard is!

I've noticed the derby blades have 1, 2, 3 and 4 written on each side, can you flip the blade and use it 'twice' as it were?

Just had my best shave to date, almost BBS, I don't know if it's my technique, razor, or blade I'm using but I can't quite get rid of that last little bit on the end of my chin and my sideburns... Using derby blades at the mo, will 7 o'clocks give me an even closer shave? Or do I need a more aggressive razor?

Edit: correcting some bleddy awful grammar...

The numbers are one of the biggest 'mysteries' in wet shaving. Outside of the factory and quality control they mean nothing at all.

They relate to the grinders in the factory that sharpen the edge.
They put the numbers on the blade so quality control can see if one isn't working properly.

3-4 shaves for me per blade, 2-3 passes per shave.

Some people insist that blade flipping works. Personally I have no idea how they think it makes a difference. There is only one edge, turning it upside down does not change it.
