The telescopic lens isn't really, it has 2 modes, 1x and 2.6x though the zoom is selected when being made. They have 2 areas, with an LCD shutter to select between them. They have yet to actually make a contact lens out of it though as what they have was solid and you need a flexible substance for contact lenses but this is the first step.

The 2 men got bone marrow transplants after discovering they had cancer. Both were diagnosed after being HIV+. They were on anti-retrovirals and then underwent the transplant. They kept taking the anti-retrovirals until recently and there has been no detectable level of active virus, although there are still traces of inactive virus in their systems. There is 1 other man who was effectively cured in Berlin a while back. Although that was attributed to a faulty gene from the donor marrow which prevents the HIV from being able to enter a cell. These two men did not recieve faulty genes.
