Scratch Build – In Progress Project : Alu Blue [Update: 26 Feb] Detail Work

I'm a big fan of the honeycomb look. Very nice work so far.

 

The hard disk rack is great, will the drives mount with a slight slant? just wondering because (what i assume are) the screw holes are at an angle. Looking forward to seeing the panels on this rig, the shape is very unique

 

Looking forward to see the sidepanels!

And I was hoping to see a sneak-preview of the front

 

Lokking back through the log, it's all coming along really nicely. The honey comb grills look superb. Nice work

first of all

and yes the harddrives will be mounted under a slide angle

now let's start with the side panel
made ??of 1mm anodised aluminum like the front panel

that big hole is for the side window
and next, underneath the window hole the cut out for the 3x120mm rads










just to finish the radius

Looks great and man you have some clean edges on your cuts

 

I was able to get the intel DX58O2 at a auction for €133 (new) instead of €220
I planned to wait with my upgrate until the case was finished, and than go for the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
but for €133 I could not wait
and I also immediately purchased the other components because it is a shame not to use the motherboard

I hesitated between:

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R €189
Asus Sabertooth X58 €164
Asrock X58 EXTREME 6 €187
Intel DX58SO2 €220 paid €133

The cheapest X58 board is €140

I have chosen the DX58SO2 because it was cheap and it has 8 SATA ports, 2 of them sata 6 and 2x usb3

The photos were taken with another camera because my Canon 400D was not available

OCZ vertex 2 60gb 25nm! and i think V2
i got 200mb/s READ and 60mb/s WRITE
and not 35mb/s WRITE every one complains about

Back Again




After a LONG time, i am back again

Most of the time i was working on my build and not working on my log
BUT i did make alot of pictures

So the log will continue



The side panels are done the only thing left was bending them to the shape of the frame
I did it with a nice bending bench at school
I made a cardbord mold to test fit the shape
Because I can't take the whole computer case with me in the train to school to test fit it XD

Because of some problems with Gluing the double bottum(spoilers) the project has been delayed, later more about the double bottum.
And also an other project(DIY 5.2 speaker set) i have been working on caused a delay.
all together caused a delay of more than a year, but i did some work on the build and kept taking pictures.
So here is the continuation of Alu Blue!



The rear panel
Poeple will sometimes forget it but the rear should also look neat.
I chose for a flat IO shield and not a countersunk IO shield like most cases have.
Behold!

Like all panels of this build this one will also be made out of 1mm anodised aluminum.


First the rough cut with the saw after that finishing it with a file.


Thats a nice fit

This will have a smal compartment for the SSD, and maybe a hot swab for a 3.5inch HDD

The last plate of this build, after that its time for the detail work.
The power supply will be placed at the bottum rear of the case, it will be paced on some aluminum beams.
I faild a bit so if it realy annoys me i can redo it later.

Today I will not yet start with the outside work, first i have to do the motherboard tray.
The tray was lasercutted so il didn't have do al the work my self.
For now the tray is only connected with a long piece of aluminum.
Only that resulted in a wobbling motherboard tray, i will later fix it to one more place.
The holes in the tray are designed to easy take of the CPU but this was designed for socket 755 only now there will be a socked 1155 installed and that wont fit anymore.













So after this its time for the outside work
