Yeah done it the other day on a netbook that way all I had to do was bring up the boot menu while booting and select the DVD
Th best (and fastest) way I have installed Win7 was with a usb stick to a SSD. It took under 7 minutes from start to finish.
^this is how we used to do it in my last place of employment, it was surprisingly quick. I don't think it was as quick as 7 minutes but we were using USB 2 and i3s with relatively entry level boards.
use this and download an ISO from digitalriver(totally legit btw) Follow the instructions and you will be up and running in no time. It's totally foolproof. Just remember to change the boot order in the UEFI/BIOS
Optical install is so much slower. Even taking the time to prep a usb stick then install is still less than half the time it takes. I prefer using rufus anyway, especially if you have a uefi system so you can make absolutely sure it will do a uefi/gpt install instead of legacy bios/mbr.
Thanks and yes so much easier. Optical drive put away in the cupboard forever and will keep the external one for an emergency.
haha. Yeah optical has been dead to me for ages. I stopped putting them in PC starting in 2007 or something like this. I don't even have an external optical for some years. I even figured out how to install Windows 98 for my retro gaming box from usb stick! Some crazy trickery on an OS that was barely aware of usb in the first place LOL.
Provided its not Windows XP. That has trouble with anything other than an internal Optical Drive. I tried it once and it did nit work. I'm not saying it's impossible, just that you may have to jump through a few more hoops to get it to work correctly. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
Optical dead? Nah, not for me, still have a Bluray Writer. Kov, as many have already said, the USB option is very elegant. Been using that method myself for a while now as the install seems to take around 8-10 minutes onto a SSD, well around there. Will also make a note of RUFUS, wasn't aware of that tool, so thanks guys!
