I think the window will fit okay but only with the statement that it'll be smoked acrylic.

Also i think the window may require a shiny chrome-like surround to match the front.

You can get some of that chrome trim surround from auto stores.

I can see where Autti's coming from... Now it's done, though, I think a shiny surround is a must too.

Yeah, but i made the block in july :) maybe we meet someday in another lanparty :dremel:

Yes, it's done. It can't be a good taste to everyone. I want to do significant changes in next days, like a paint job to all pieces. Well, really it's done, but it's a totally disaster. I need to upload new pics to show you and ask for help on this.
The chromed mesh and window can be affected by the color change, front mesh probably will be changed to a mat black.

    not dead yet

PSU now runs 12v line @8v, 5 glorious years of service, this fail isn't due to any modification by me , TOPOWER (Tagan supplier) has recognised some desing errors on U22 models.
Now I'm running without a PSU, I have a donated CM RS-850-EMBA, but it needs a LOT of work to run again. Doesn't have ANY cable, the metal case is severly damaged (prior owner tried to mod it) and the most important, its ultra-large for this project (18cm + cable curve). It doesn't leave room for the watercooling pump or any.

Hey people, I'm here again after... five years exactly since the last update. A lot of things happened these years like returning to study at the university, discovering a new hobby like cars (i'm a proud owner of a car with a torsen diff :D), and so... But mainly I left this project because I get frustrated with a painful paint job.
My idea was to paint with a glossy candy apple red, but was really hard to get an acceptable finish at home with a cheap paint gun. And after painting, strip all the paint, painting again... i let down with the whole thing.
These years my painting skills improved greatly, and also my polishing skills (due to cars). So this summer I decided to revive this project but being a bit less exigent with me. Then I decided to paint the case with blue paint (something like RAL-5005) with a glossy finish. Of course if someone of you are familiar with paint or polishing techniques you will spot a lot of faults and imperfections.

    Enjoy :cooldude:

This box had all the mod related parts for many years.

Wtf this stuff is assembled? I need to check the old pics.

I can't do it better with home tools.

Oops, I missed to put tape here.

After some cleaning with a drill bit, no problem at all.

This is my old case, ins service for several years.

Here you can see that the mainboard is the same since I started the project. This is because this platform performed really well. I have changed the cpu for a x6 1100T (i won a contest!), a new gpu (7970) from bitcoin mining times and of course a new ssd.

The old PSU died in a stormy day and the insurance company paid this corsair AX750 :)

GPUs have become so humongous these years... this is 28,5mm from the pci plate.

Okay I'll try without the middle fan.

    ... really?

    REALLY??

Maybe i can scratch a few millimeters modifying the radiator support.

    Approaching the radiator to front.

    And voilà.

    Wow wow :D

    Whoah!:D

@Stonedsurd - Not a necrobump if the project shows life. This is more like that thing Jesus did.

I'm glad to see your nicknames again, seriously, I remember you :D

You are welcome :thumb: But modding seems to have advanced a lot in terms of quality, and now there are a lot of projects that are really astonishing, better than mine for sure. Maybe it's due to the major part of old modders now has more experience, or maybe it's due to an easy access to machinery at home (cnc, 3d printing...).

I have a question related to watercooling tubes. In my last build I used polyamide hoses to match this fast-plug:

But polyamide its really tight, you need to bend some with heat to do small radius. I'm looking for a tubing that can achieve small radius and will also filtrate vibrations from the waterpump. 10/8mm (id/od) will be ok, there are a really small gap between the gpu and the future window. Of course it will need compression fittings rather than fast-plug ones.

So, witch you think that will perform better?

    PUR (polyurethane)
    PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
    PE (polyethylene)

I also considering to use anti-kinking springs.

I remember the amazing work done on the front frame  and I am happy to see that your mod is not dead

Do you consider to use 90 degree adapter for watercooling?

I totally agree with you. While it is impressive what some people can whip up with CNC and 3D printers, to me it just doesn't all add the same amount of impression as when someone does everything by scratch. Some builds with custom CNC work are REALLY impressive, but most people can draw a square box with features in sketch up and then export it to something a CNC cutter can read. Taking up an old case and going to work with a dremel, metalsaw etc. is sometimes more impressive to me. Mod on!

Missed the update. No experience with any of the tubing mentioned. Is it possible to get some silicone cord in the radius you need to keep your heated tubing from kinking?

I used them before, but I hope I dont have to use them, you loose energy on every 90 degree turn (also inside blocks).

Well I also used a CNC, wait for the next update

Finally I decided to go with PVC on 11/8mm (like 7/16" / 5/16" ?), I also ordered new compression fittings.

    22th Update [5th Sep 2015] New radiator/bezel support

Hey people, after some busy days finally I made a new support to hold the radiator and the front bezel. I started doing some manual work:

    But I didnt like it...

So I started to play with my custom CNC for a best finish.

    I use LinuxCNC with [IMG]

This is an aluminum test, 2mm thick, but the final piece will be 1mm.

    That is the final one.

    Its a bit miss-centered.

Yay!, now the GPU can be fitted!

And also with a fan! well only if I remove the gpu plastic thing.

Or if I fit a smaller one...

After removing a bit of material the fitting its perfect.

    Checking with rivets in.

    And ready to paint!

    Bezel needed some polish.

    Perfect fit :D
    [IMG]

What happen to all those messy cables?, let's try if it can fit without any modification.

I think SDD will need some type of bracket/slot...

But te rest seems to be OK!

I cringed a bit when I saw you milling directly against the supports. I have a single scar on my mill table from making contact with a mounting screw accidentally. I still can't stand to look at it.
