I'm building some shelves and benches in the garage with some left-over timber from a recent project, and so that they don't scuff up the floor too much and so that the timber itself doesn't soak up any spillages or the like, I thought getting some plastic "feet" for the ends would be the approach of least resistance. Now, I expected that this was almost certainly a thing - a ~40x90mm cup to place on the end of sad timber, but I can't find any. Either my search terms are failing me, or it's not a thing. Anyone able to offer an assist?
Can't you just pop into a flooring place and get a cut off of lino? and then like, glue that to the feet parts?
I could do lots of things that achieve the same result, but none are so simple as ordering some feet things online (if they're a thing) and placing them on the timber when the turn up. You might be on to something with this one. Basically this for wood is what I'm after, but I'll readjust search terms and see if there's something along these lines which will just slip over.
these ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=feet%20caps&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=1&_trksid=p2045573.m1684
Those, but to cap off a 2x4, which seem not to be a thing. I think these come second place, but do the job all the same. Don't quite need 1000 of them, but I'll track them down elsewhere. Cheers for the assistance gentlemen. I was sure that there must have been something off the shelf for just this purpose, go figure.
Can't you just put some T-nuts on the bottom of each leg and screw in a bolt to lift the legs off the floor a bit?
I was wondering about dipping the ends of the timber in wax? Maybe that's just because I'm from the 1800s though.
I thought similarly but my idea was to get one of the 2 part rubber kits, from smooth on or something and use that and pour the feet yourself
