Hi everyone. It seems that (now I've been able to replicate it) my SO's laptop likes to shutdown without any warning or prompts roughly 20-30mons after turning it on.

There is no shutdown screen, no scheduled warning or event, the screen goes black and a few seconds laterz the fans cut out. And you have to reboot it. It doesn't do it again after this has been done.

I've trawled through the event log and nothing I can see points to it. If it happens again tonight I'll screenshot it for y'all.

    Any ideas?

It is possible that the laptop is overheating. If you haven't checked already try a program such as SpeedFan and monitor temps. My brothers laptop had a similar issue and it turned out to be dust blocking the fan exhaust and causing overheating problems.

It's always on startup and I've done my best to deal with overheating problems so I don't think it's that.
