Ohh, look forward to this. I swear my right hand controller's acting up - or at least the one that I hold in my right hand at the time.

News like this makes me very glad I skipped 1st gen VR (I did however own a DK2). They will iterate quickly and 2nd gen can't be too far away, say 12-18 months?

I genuinely getting excited for VR again and very much looking forward to what comes next.

"... if Valve's designers have done their jobs properly, with no risk that the controller will follow the parabolic trajectory of the VR object and smash against the wall or floor."

I, for one, am waiting with bated breath for the inevitable rash of "wiimote through the TV screen" reports when it turns out their designers DIDN'T do the job properly!

They probably won't come off due to being pretty well attached. The downside is it is pretty much impossible to put them on yourself, so you need a helper or you only wear one at a time.

::EDIT:: The Capacitive grip sensor is analog, but detects the entire hand state rather than individual fingers. Functionally, that makes it more similar to a MUCH better implemented grip-button on the Vive 'wands' than the finger tracking on Oculus Touch. however, this is a very early prototype (DEFINITELY not production ready!) so additional functionality could be added to bring them up to feature parity.

That is why it is still a prototype. Gives them time to figure out how to let you put your own controllers on, and enable Wiimote Massacre 2.

Not sure what u mean by little useful VR stuff? What is your definition of useful?

I regard the following as "useful"

    DCS World.
    Unreal Engine
    Elite Dangerous
    Project Cars
    VR Porn
The many VR games but I woulda bought VR just for the simulations. DCS World alone in VR is worth it for me.
    Virtual desktop
Whirligig and lots of other stuff in VR.

Like the news that made me glad I skipped skylake because the next CPU is better.

I didn't skip Oculus DK2 or gen 1 consumer VR and I have no problem with that. I have zero interest in new controllers for Vive at this stage and woulda preferred Valve compete with Oculus Asynchronous Spacewarp but I know they never will.

I don't need new controllers to do the stuff I currently do in VR.
